West Park Friday Afternoon Parent Update 4/16/2021
What a wonderful week we had back at WPE! Our students and staff adjusted beautifully to the 100% in person learning model – and didn’t skip a beat in the classroom. I imagine our students might be tired after four big days of learning with all of their crew at WPE – please congratulate them on showing perseverance and collaboration with so many new friends at school. We look forward to the next weeks of school together.
Check out the beautiful castle collage created by our art students in Ms. Stock’s class!
Thank you for your patience with our pick-up lines. Due to COVID school bus restrictions, we have more students being picked up and dropped off than in previous years. I appreciate your tolerance as safety is our first priority – that means we will take our time to get your children safely to their families each day.
*Do you know someone who will be 5 by October 1, 2021? If so, we’d love to have them join our kindergarten class at Lake County Elementary School! We are doing kindergarten pre-registration the month of April. Please follow this link to pre-register, and ensure that we have your correct contact information to send out the formal registration packet to you in early July.
*Please continue to send your child with their completed health screener. We have many students who do not arrive with a health screener paper; we hope to get students to class quickly and avoid congestion at our doorways. If you need more screener papers, please contact your child’s teacher to send more home.

*We are excited to announce a FREE 3-part Family Learning Institute for parents and families of Lake County students. This series is a partnership between LCSD, Full Circle, and other health agencies in our county. The goal of this series is to give parents more knowledge and tools to promote health and wellbeing of the family. The sessions will be held virtually on April 14th, May 12th, and June 9th from 6-7:30pm.
We will cap the series at 30 participants to provide us with enough time to answer questions and have good discussions.
At the end of the series, families that attend all 3 sessions will receive incentives that promote health and wellness*: 1) Farm bucks to spend on local produce at Cloud City Conservation Center, 2) A free one year family membership to the Get Outdoors Leadville Gear Library, and 3) a one-day family pass to the Lake County Aquatic Center. Parents, please use the following link: https://forms.gle/bnv9hyNiDqPBAR3N9
*Attention 2nd Grade Parents: This year the Gifted and Talented Program will be testing all students in 2nd grade, using an assessment called the Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test 3 (NNAT3). We will be using it as a universal screener for identification in General Cognitive Ability.
Giftedness is actually quite rare. We look for a minimum of three nationally-normed achievement tests to qualify someone in an academic area (i.e. Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies), and also use universal screeners like the NNAT3. If a student scores in the 95th percentile or greater, we can use this as a data point for giftedness.
I will contact you if your child scores in the 95th percentile or greater on this screener. Please notify me via email if you would like a copy of your child’s NNAT3 report for your information. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
