CCHS News and Announcements
Hello CCHS Families,
First semester is flying by. We have our second Workforce Bootcamp scheduled for Wednesday, November 16th. It is mandatory for all CCHS students to attend the entire school day on this day. Our Thanksgiving meal will be on Tuesday, November 22nd. Please get your RSVP to Leslee ASAP so we can plan accordingly.
Attendance is an area where several students are still struggling. Either they are absent or arriving late to classes. Please see the attached school district attendance policy. I have been reaching out to families to help support with attendance. If your child has more than 10 absences, look forward to hearing from me soon to set up an attendance plan. A few students are in jeopardy of repeating their course for low attendance and completion of work. Check with your child or your child’s crew teacher to see if your student is one of those. We have an attendance challenge again for the month of November. Every student who has 85% or higher attendance for CCHS classes will receive a gift card in the amount of $15 for lunch at a place of their choice. We had 5 for the month of October. I would like to see this double or even triple for November. Again, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at any time with questions or concerns.

Attendance Information from the CCHS Student/Parent Handbook:
ATTENDANCE
Consistent school attendance is an integral part of the educational process and is directly aligned to
successful school performance. When a student is absent, they miss the important interactions that occur
in the classroom. It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to ensure that their child attends school on a regular basis. Our student calendar and personal student schedules include adequate days off and vacation periods. Therefore, families should schedule appointments and vacations when school is not in session, except in cases of emergencies.
When a student is absent, there must be written or verbal contact from a parent/guardian on the day of the
absence. Absences without contact will be considered unexcused. After 7 absences, we may request a
note from a professional (doctor, judge, etc…) in order for an absence to be excused. There will be an
automated phone call to confirm a student’s absence with the parent/guardian if we have not had previous
contact. If there is no communication between the student’s parent/guardian, the student will be marked
unexcused per Lake County School District R-1 policy. Only the following shall be considered excused
absences:
● A student who is temporarily ill or injured or whose absence is approved by the administrator
and/or medical professional.
○ Prearranged absences shall be approved for appointments or circumstances of a serious
nature only which cannot be taken care of outside of school hours. To excuse an extended
absence of 3 or more consecutive days, the parent/guardian must complete and return the
pre-arranged absence form 3 days before the start of the absences. The form can be
obtained from our front office.
● A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental or emotional disability
with a note from a medical professional.
● A student who is attending any school-sponsored activity or activities of an educational nature
with advance approval by the administration.
● A student who is suspended or expelled.
If a student reaches ten (10) absences (excused or unexcused), it is likely that the student’s family will
receive a letter of attendance concern and CCHS will request a formal meeting to establish a success plan
for attendance. If a student is absent for more than 15 days, they are considered chronically absent and
further action will be taken.
If a student misses ten (10) school days in a row, the student will be withdrawn from school and will have
to re-enroll in school once the student returns to school.
All students who are leaving the building during the school day must be signed out in the office. When a
student returns to school, they must check in at the office on the day of their return so that we can ensure
accurate attendance records.
A student is considered tardy if they arrive at school after 8:30 a.m. A student who is tardy must check in
at the office before reporting to class.
CCHS Thanksgiving Meal Tuesday, November 22nd, 11:45 am. Parents, guardians, and family members are invited to come enjoy this meal with your student! The adult guest price is $4.50, student guest price is $3.10. If your student guest is enrolled in any Lake County School, we will simply use that student’s Lunch ID number to ring up the meals. RSVP to Leslee, 719-486-6980 or ltorsell@lakecountyschools.net by Thursday, November 17th so that we can provide an accurate count to the kitchen staff.
