9th Grade J-Term Communication
Dear LCHS 9th Grade Families,
We are excited to announce our collaboration between LCHS and CMC for our last two weeks of school. These last two weeks are geared towards students exploring different pathways to careers through exploration with Colorado Mountain College. Students will be divided into smaller groups and explore different opportunities from Monday, June 3rd through Thursday, June 13th. It is important to note that attendance does count during these last two weeks and students will receive a small portion of elective credit if they show up and participate fully in the activities. This packet contains important information and forms that need to be returned. All documents need to be signed and returned to your child’s crew teacher no later than Wednesday, May 30th. Below is information regarding specifics to the last two weeks. On the first day of J-Term, students will receive a detailed schedule to bring home their specific daily activities based on their cohort.
INFORMATION / DOCUMENTS INCLUDED:

- What to bring daily and for white water rafting specifically (students will know when they are going to this activity)
- Waivers that need to be returned for your student to participate in certain activities by no later than Wednesday, May 30th. Please have your student return this to their crew teacher. Link for Waivers.

- Opt-Out Form for specific days (if students opt-out of certain days, they will be at LCHS and participate in activities/time at LCHS)
It is important to note that attendance and credit apply to J-Term and students must show up and fully participate in J-Term to get credit. Students must attend 6 out of the 8 days to receive the credit.

June 3-6
Construction Trades
- A day at CMC learning about heavy equipment and how to drive and run the machines (safety lesson session included)
- Lunch provided by CMC
Health Sciences
- A day driving to Breckenridge to tour the CMC Breckenridge campus and learn about their health sciences programs
- Lunch will need to be packed by student
Fire Science
- A day at CMC learning about our fire science program with hands-on activities of what it is like to be a firefighter. We may be taking a trip to the burn tower just south of town.
- Lunch provided by CMC
Outdoor Recreational Leadership and Ski Area Operations
- A day at CMC learning outdoor recreational skills through activities such as using the climbing wall and disc golf along with some other outdoor wilderness survival skills
- Lunch provided by CMC
June 10-13:
Fire Science
- A day driving to Salida for a tour of the Maysville Fire Camp
- Lunch is provided by Maysville Fire Camp
Health Science
- A day at CMC learning about what a day in the life of a healthcare provider is with hands on activities
- Lunch provided by CMC
Construction Trades
- A day at CMC learning about construction and building something (safety lesson session included)
- Lunch provided by CMC
Outdoor Recreational Leadership and Ski Area Operations
- A half day white water rafting through Wilderness Aware Rafting in Buena Vista
- Lunch will need to be packed by student
WHAT TO BRING DAILY
- Sunscreen
- Hat/visor
- Water Bottle
- Sweatshirt/lightweight jacket
- Closed toed shoes
- Comfortable clothing that is easy to move in
- Sunglasses
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR FOR THE RAFTING DAY
- Do Not Wear Cotton on the River (no jeans or sweats). Quick dry apparel is available in our retail store.
- Swimming Suit and/or Shorts
- Sunglasses with Securing Strap
- Fleece Jacket or Synthetic Insulating Layer (for colder days)
- Hat or Visor (can be worn under your helmet)
- Waterproof Sunscreen
- Waterproof Camera
- Tennis Shoes or Secure Sandals (no flip-flops or Crocs)
- Cash for Souvenirs
- Water Bottle
- Change of Clothes and Towel (for after the trip)
