LCES Parent Update 9/17/2021
LCES Families,
It was another great week at LCES. We are doing an attendance challenge! Please help your child’s crew earn a special reward for attendance by helping to get your child to school each day. When your child misses school, they are missing out on valuable learning time that can’t be made up. While we understand that If your child is sick they need to stay home, we encourage you to please get your child to school every day. In the event that you do keep your child home sick, their crew teacher will send home the work they missed when they return to school.
Reminder – If your child is here after 8:10 you need to sign them in with the front office. Please do not drop off at the back doors after 8:10 – Thank you!
Each year our schools have an official day in which attendance of students is counted. This count of students is used to calculate funding our district will receive from the state. Typically this count date is October 1st. Because we run a four day calendar and will not have school on October 1st, our official count day will be September 30th. Thank you in advance for your support of having students in attendance on September 30th this year.
Students started checking books out this week in their library class. While these books aren’t going home yet, it is great to see students engaged and excited about reading. I want to encourage all of you to be reading with your students at least 20 minutes additional per day. Research shows that reading daily with your child helps them grow in so many ways. Exposing students to more words per day helps them do better in all subjects by increasing vocabulary and background knowledge. If you need books for home use, please reach out to me and I would be happy to help connect you with some resources. Enjoy your reading time!
Here is one of our second grade classes enjoying story time with Mrs. Ayers in our library:
Do you have a day or two available during the week? Would you be interested in subbing? This is a great way to help our students and be involved in the school community.
