Welcome Back to LCHS for the 2024-2025 School Year
Dear Lake County High School Community,
Welcome to the 24-25 school year! We are excited to welcome you back into the building very soon. Teachers returned this past week and are working hard to prepare for the best educational experiences possible for our students.
As we begin the year we are focusing on the following mantra “Do what we say we are going to do and do it well!” We believe that follow-through and transparency is crucial to the success of our building. We have incredible potential to not only be a great school but a special place where all of our stakeholders can thrive, feel included and achieve their potential.
Our guiding principles for this year will be driven by three things:
- Prioritizing Student Success
- Streamlining and Focus
- Support and Consistency
We will reflect on these principles as we make decisions across the building.
Attendance is going to be a big push for us this year. We will be communicating out our policies and procedures around this so we can best support you and your student(s). Please remember, you must call in for any time your student is going to be absent.
For the 24-25 school year, we have made some adjustments to policies. Please see below for more information.
Cell Phones / Airpods (Devices)
We know that cell phones / airpods are a significant topic throughout the country. This year, we are striving to have students engaged in class with learning from the beginning to end of class. The expectation is during those times devices are out of sight and not being used. If a student is seen using a device during class time the following will happen:
- The teacher will remind students of the expectation and to put their device away.
- If the student puts the device away and leaves it away for the remainder of class nothing further will happen.
- If the student uses the device again, the teacher will have them put it in a specific location within their classroom.
- If the student refuses to put their device in the location, support staff will be called to take the device for the remainder of the day. Escalation may occur if it continues to be a distraction/issue.
Open Campus 9-12
Starting for the 24-25 school year, LCHS will have an open-campus lunch policy for 9th through 12th grade students. Students will be required to sign out prior to leaving. Parents/Guardians will have the option to complete an opt-out form which means they do not want their student leaving campus. These will be available in the front office starting tomorrow, August 6th. LCHS Administration reserves the right to revoke this privilege for attendance and/or behavior concerns. If students have lunch detention assigned, they need to remain in the building that day.
Additionally, we look forward to seeing you at orientation conferences today (8/6). If you have not signed up for a time yet, please click here.
As I begin my second year as Principal here at LCHS three things remain true:
- I believe in our students
- I believe in our staff
- I believe in our future
As this year progresses please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions, suggestions, or concerns. We are here to build capacities, honor voice/perspective, and take Lake County High School to the next level. As we go through the school year, we will be transparent about our shortcomings and celebrate our successes.
All the best,
Scott Carroll
