News From LCHS 8/29/24
Dear LCHS Community,
It is hard to believe that we are wrapping up our third week of school! We have had a strong start and are looking forward to the year ahead. As we head into week four, we are excited to continue developing our crew structure. Students will begin to have Panther Support, which is a time for them to spend more time with teachers for content they may not be understanding. We believe that this extra time will be valuable to students and their success here at LCHS.
The week of September 16th will be cornerstones for our 7th and 9th grade students. 7th Grade will be working with Get Outdoors Leadville and our 9th graders will be traveling to 100 Elks. We believe these experiences help our students learn, grow, and discover more about themselves. The front office will have opt-out forms if you would like your child to not participate. Look next week for specific communication about schedules.
Our 24-25 Student Handbook is now available. Here is the English version and Spanish version. If changes are made to this, we will be sure to send these out again.
We want to share our bathroom procedures at LCHS for this year. These procedures are designed to support students while also maximizing their learning time.
- Students receive four bathroom passes per day, and if it is an emergency any student is allowed to go.
- Bathrooms are open during passing periods and lunch
Please reach out with any questions or concerns about these procedures.
Here is our attendance data for this week:
- 7/8: 92%
- 9/10: 91%
- 11/12: 92%
Here is our attendance data for the first three weeks of school:
- 7/8: 92%
- 9/10: 93%
- 11/12: 92%
We are encouraged by this attendance data! Consistent school attendance is essential for academic success and personal growth. It ensures that students stay engaged with their lessons, develop key life skills, and build strong social connections. Missing school can create learning gaps and make it harder for students to keep up, ultimately affecting their performance and sense of belonging. Prioritizing attendance helps set students up for a successful future both in and out of the classroom. If your student needs to be absent, please make sure you call the office at 719.486.6950. Let’s keep up the great work.
Additionally, if your student needs to miss an extended amount of time please make sure you are completing the pre-arranged absence form. Copies of both the English version and Spanish version are available in the front office.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (9/3 – 9/4) of next week there will be road construction on 6th street near Washington Street. The work is planned before/after school drop-off/pick-up times, but there may be some congestion. Please be alert for different traffic patterns and any pedestrians navigating around the construction areas.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,

Panther Fans,
Our sports seasons are underway! The mountain bike team took 2nd place in their race on the CMC trails last weekend! The XC teams competed on the state course a week ago and put 2 athletes in the top 10. Golf has already competed in 3 tournaments and has had a solid showing for a new team. The HS JV soccer team pulled off a win against Englewood this week, 2-1, and although the varsity team lost 2-0, they played really well against the much larger opponent. HS volleyball competes at Vail Christian on Friday, and varsity football makes it’s return against Sargent at the Buena Vista HS stadium Friday night at 7 pm.
HS and MS XC teams host their invitational at CMC on Saturday, August 31. This is your one chance this year to see these top-level teams compete in Leadville! High school girls race at 10:20 am, high school boys at 11, middle school girls at 11:45 and middle school boys at 12:15 pm.
Volleyball has several home games next week. MS plays on Tuesday and Thursday, and HS hosts Vail Mountain School on Wednesday. We will be charging a gate fee to get into those games through our digital ticketing system, GoFan. You can purchase tickets ahead of time at https://gofan.co/app/school/CO11697 or with a credit card at the event. Middle school tickets are $3/adult and $2/seniors (60+). High school tickets are $7/adult and $5/seniors (60+). Lake County students get in free with their student ID card. If you plan to come to most of our home events this year, you can purchase a season pass through GoFan for $90/adult or $50/seniors. Those passes will get you into any home event- HS and MS, volleyball and basketball, boys and girls.
LET’S GO PANTHERS!!
