LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-8-26
Hello LCIS Families,
As we quickly move into the month of May, we have many events and activities on the calendar. Please read on and mark your calendars!
Our End of Year DIBELS testing continues this week for any student who missed testing last week.
Our students will begin taking the ELA and Math Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments from the Northwest Evaluation Association NWEA next week. These assessments measure current academic levels and monitor a student’s growth.
On Wednesday, May 13th our 6th graders will go to Denver to the Molly Brown Museum. There they will learn more about her survival story from her time on the Titanic. The 6th graders begin their final ELA unit on the Titanic soon!
On Wednesday, May 13th, we will be conducting our second Lockdown Drill of the school year. We have sent an email with more details. Please call if you have any questions.
On Friday, May 15th, the 6th grade band students will travel to Elitch’s for a musical performance followed by some fun at the park. Students must be at the high school by 6am to begin loading the bus. Performers must wear their Lake County Band Shirt Also, please be aware; Elitch’s does not accept cash – only cards. We expect the band to return to Leadville at 6pm
One very exciting event coming up is our annual Celebration of Learning on June 10th from 6:00-7:15.
- Lideres Latinx and LCSD are collaborating to sponsor Convivio, a family potluck celebrating our different food cultures. Convivio happens on June 10 at LCIS, right before the Celebration of Learning. Please bring food to the LCIS gym no later than 4:30pm. The event will be from 5-6pm. Feel free to make a small sign telling people about your dish and where it comes from!
- To sign up for Convivio use this link.
- Following Convivio, the Celebration of learning will begin with musical performances in the Gym. Then families will be encouraged to visit students across all grade levels to share in the joy of learning. Students are always so excited to share their work with you.
Upcoming:
Wednesday, May 20th is the day that many students have been waiting for- the Rockies Baseball Game! If your child has missed ½ day of school or less this year, they automatically earned a ticket for the game. Many students also received a ticket due to showing perseverance on the CMAS assessments in April. We still have a handful of tickets left to award to students who are showing good effort and following expectations without reminders.
The Annual Lake County School District Art Show is quickly approaching! If you would like to help with this amazing community event on Thursday, May 21st, please sign up to volunteer using this link: https://signup.com/go/goamuPm To learn more, see the flyer with more information at the bottom of this communication. Thank you for supporting our budding artists in Lake County!

Also, scroll down to view the fliers about upcoming and summer opportunities.
Team Building:
Third graders had a wonderful time together at Hayden Meadows on Thursday. They explored our region’s Native American history. They viewed pictographs, studied trapping and the fur trade, built shelters, and enjoyed their time outdoors.

Homework- IXL:
Continue to encourage your child to work on their recommended ELA and Math skills each week for homework. Remember, 20 minutes a day can make a positive change!

Mental Health Matters This May
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.
Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 970-710-5049.
