News From LCHS 5/29/26
Dear LCHS Families,
As we wrap up the month of May, we are looking forward to a number of exciting end of year activities and celebrations. This is always a busy and meaningful time of year as we recognize student accomplishments, celebrate milestones, and prepare for the transition into summer.
As we approach the end of the school year, we wanted to let you know that we will be running half days for finals on Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th. 7-12 students will be released at 11:30AM.
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and well-being, we are currently identifying times and spaces over the next two weeks for all students in grades 9-12 to participate in a conversation about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence (DUI).
Over the past year, we have seen an increase in DUI-related incidents involving members of our student population. While the number remains relatively small, these situations are serious and can have significant impacts on students, families, and our community. Our goal is to provide students with information and support that helps them make safe, responsible decisions and keep themselves and others safe.
Upcoming Events:
5-12 Band Concert at Ice Palace Park: Tuesday, June 2nd (5:00PM)
7-12 Choir Concert at The Tabor Opera House: Wednesday, June 3rd (7:00PM)
Final Grades Due for Seniors: Thursday, June 4th (4:00PM)
Senior Walk: Thursday, June 11th (AM)
Senior Motorcade: Thursday, June 11th (6:00PM)
Graduation: Thursday, June 13th (10:30AM)
Final Exams: Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th
8th Grade Continuation: Wednesday, June 17th (6:00PM)
We look forward to celebrating the many accomplishments of our students over the next few weeks and finishing the school year strong.

Athletics/Activities Survey
It’s survey season! I’d love to hear about your experience with our sports and activities this year. Both parents and students are invited to complete this survey. Thank you for taking a few minutes to provide your feedback!
Summer Training
Next year’s successes begin NOW with spring and summer training! We have lots of opportunities for athletes.
- The weight room is open almost every afternoon. Once we get to summer break, we will shift to a couple of evenings and a couple of mornings each week. That schedule will be released before school gets out.
- Speed and agility training starts this week- Mondays and Thursdays at 4 pm at the Community Park Field. Athletes from all sports are welcome to participate.
- Most high school programs have their own open gyms/practice times or will be starting in the next couple of weeks. If you need help getting in touch with a coach, please let me know.
Sports Physical Night
In partnership with St Vincent Hospital, we will be holding a Sports Physical Night on Tuesday, June 9 at LCHS from 5:30-7:30 pm. Take care of your athlete’s physical requirement for next year! This event will be taking the place of the August event we have held in recent years. Each physical will be $25 and can be paid for by cash, check or credit card.
Looking ahead to 2026-2027
- We are changing athletic leagues! Volleyball, basketball, cheer and all of our middle school sports will be part of the West Central League, which includes South Park, Cotopaxi, Custer County, Cripple Creek/Victor and Platte Canyon. Our other CHSAA high school sports (soccer, cross country, golf, track and field, wrestling, football) will be part of the Western Slope League. Those league competitions will be in the northwest quadrant of the state.
- The first day of practice for high school football and golf will be Monday, August 3. All other fall high school sports officially begin on Monday, August 10- the first day of school! Middle school sports will begin the week or two following that.
- We’ve got a great list of high school head coaches for next year:

I’m so thankful for everyone who has come out to support our students this year! Thank you for entrusting your students to us and positively engaging with our programs! I look forward to even better things in 2026-2027!
