News From LCHS 8/29/25
Dear LCHS Families,
As we wrap up our third week here at LCHS, I am very impressed by how quickly our students are finding their rhythm and rising to the expectations we have set together. Each week we see more growth as students settle into routines, engage more deeply in their learning, and show us what they are capable of when the structure is clear. The energy in the building feels focused and positive, and it is encouraging to see the momentum building in our classrooms and hallways. With strong systems in place and the support of staff and families, we are laying a solid foundation for a successful semester ahead.
Below are some quotes from our teachers on how our new procedures and policies are helping engage students.
- “I’ve noticed students are more present and engaged in class discussions since we rolled out the new cell phone expectations. It’s creating a stronger learning environment.” – Kyle Baker (Counselor)
- “One of the biggest wins this year has been seeing so many students showing up to class on time—ready to learn, focused, and setting the tone for success!” – Celesta Cairns (Music)
- “Students are getting to class on time and making the most out of the lesson. Our strong starts make each class more productive. Students are getting to work quickly and quietly and it makes the rest of the lesson go smoother because students know what to expect. Keep it up Panthers!” Devin Riggs (English)
- “Being a new teacher at a school with this type of cell phone policy, I was curious to see how it was going to play out. I am pleasantly surprised and have really been enjoying seeing students interact much more with each other, both socially and academically.” – Carrie Rodgers (Special Education)
- “In Junior High, students are getting to class on time and spending more time in class! We have much fewer tardy students, if any at all, and students are spending less time in the hallways and bathrooms. They are where they are supposed to be, and teachers are able to teach more because of it!” – Arizona Hager (English)
As we head into Labor Day weekend, I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming our students back next week, ready to continue the great work we have started together.
All the best,

Fall sports are in full swing, and we have lots of home events on the horizon that could still use workers! Most of the positions are paid, and some allow you to work and watch your athlete at the same time. If you are interested in more information, please email Alison Sprague at asprague@lakecountyschools.net.
Sports Report: Our HS golf team is currently ranked 13th out of 50 2A squads. XC opened their season in Basalt last Saturday. Middle school boys finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and a middle school girl took 2nd. The high school girls placed 2nd as a team, beating out several bigger 3A schools. Our only home XC meet is Saturday at Colorado Mountain College. There is a 5K citizen’s race at 9:30; entry fee is $20. Whether you run, walk or just cheer, we hope you show up to support our runners!

LCSD Strategic Plan Survey
This fall, we are launching a community-driven strategic planning process to help guide our priorities and investments in the years ahead. We want to ensure every student is thriving—and that means listening to the ideas, hopes, and experiences of our families, staff, students, and community.
We want to hear from you. Please take a few minutes to share your perspective through our Strategic Plan Survey and help spread the word to other families and community members.
