LCIS SNSO 3-1-20
Dear LCIS Families,
This past week at our community meeting we honored our students of the month for showing compassion. We’re so thankful to have a school full of students who live our norms by taking care of each other and committing to quality interactions. All classes had many nominations. Congratulations to those students who were chosen to be recognized. During the month of March, we will focus on the habit of perseverance.
Thank you to all who were able to attend our third graders presentation of the Tenth Mountain Division this past Wednesday. Our third graders were joined by veterans Hugh Evans and Bruce Bjorgum. They shared a timeline of events and shared journal entries from the point of view of a Tenth Mountain Division soldier. They sang Climb to Glory, This Land is Your Land and You’re a Grand Old Flag. They were fantastic! On Friday the 3rd graders joined in the Tenth Mountain Division Ski Down Celebration at Ski Cooper. We are so honored and thankful to have such a rich history in our own backyard.
Please come join us for our second Family Math Night on Wednesday, March 4th at 6:15 pm. Mrs. Pongrekun, one of our 6th grade teachers, will discuss how to support your student in math. Interpretation, light snacks, and childcare will be provided. If you have any questions, please reach out to Karen Johnson at 719-293-5093 or kajohnson@lakecountyschools.net
Picture Day is this Friday, March 6. Students will have the opportunity to have individual photos taken with a studio background. Class photos will also be taken at this time. Order forms went home this week or you can order online at lifetouch.com.
All students are welcome to submit artwork for our Yearbook Cover contest. Entries are due by Thursday, March 5th. Please be sure to include the words Lake County Intermediate School or the letters LCIS along with the school year of 2019-2020 on all submitted artwork.
Pancake Breakfast! Our 6th grade students will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast at the Elk’s Club on Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Each plate will cost $8 and all proceeds will benefit future 6th graders in outdoor education. Please come and enjoy a delicious breakfast during your Ski Joring weekend!
On Monday, March 9, at 4:15pm Project Dream will be running their first practice Lockdown drill with students. Safety is always our number one priority, and we look forward to practicing this drill in the after school setting. Please note that during the duration of the drill, students will not be released. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Karen Johnson, After School Director, at 719-293-5093 or kajohnson@lakecountyschools.net. Thank you for your support.
On October 12, 2020, we will have a practice Lockdown drill at Lake County Intermediate School and on Wednesday, March 4, we will have our monthly Fire Drill. We practice these drills so that we may familiarize the staff and students with our expectations and routines in case we are ever faced with a crisis. Please look for a letter to come home this week in Thursday folders with more details about our safety drills. As always, please call with any questions and concerns. Thank you for supporting safety at LCIS!
Friends of the Fish Hatchery are sponsoring a Winter Fun Day on March 22. Please see the attached flier for more information.
