LCIS SNSO 5-3-20
Dear LCIS Families,
I hope that you are all healthy and safe. It’s been such a treat to have these spring days. Hopefully you have been able to take a walk and enjoy our beautiful mountain scenery. We hope that your child continues to be engaged with his/her learning with the work offered in the packets and through Google Classroom. The teachers have been sharing how wonderful it has been to connect with your child through the online platform. Thank you for continuing to support your child with his/her school work.
A message to 6th grade families from Mr. Cairns at the High School:
Dear 6th Grade Families,
We are so excited to have your students join us at LCHS in the fall. We normally do tours, have a night for you all to come see the school and do many things to help support this transition. However, due to our current school closures we are going to have to do things a little differently. We are going to host a Zoom meeting next Wednesday night, 5/6 at 7pm where Mr. Cairns and Ms. Dillon will go over classes, policies, and the logistics for our new 7th graders. You will also have the opportunity to post questions that we will also answer during the Zoom meeting.
Please choose on of the following platforms to join the meeting.
Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/95651764462 (map)
Google Meet: meet.google.com/eyw-nrkr-ydc
We look forward to seeing you there and getting to know you and your students as they join us at LCHS!
-Ben Cairns
On Monday, May 11 from 8-4 and Tuesday May 12 from 3-7 we will host our final packet pick up at LCIS for only grades 3-6. At this time we plan to distribute:
- the last two weeks of distant learning
- summer learning opportunities
- student belongings
Currently, your child’s teacher is gathering up his/her belongings and preparing them for you to take home. During these two days, we will also have our lost and found items displayed on hanging racks near the parking lot exit available for you to check for your child’s missing items.
Distribution of items during these two days will follow the same structure: parents will enter the LCIS parking lot from 6th street, drive up to the cone at the front entrance, remain in their vehicles and tell the LCIS staff member their child s name and grade level. The staff member will bring your child’s items to you. Please only plan to get out of your vehicle if you want to look at the lost and found items and remember to follow social distancing recommendations.
We will be mailing report cards home the week of May 11th. These reports will reflect student progress through March 13, 2020. If your mailing address has changed since registration, please leave a message with the LCIS office at 719-486-6830.
If your child has borrowed a Chromebook for distant learning, he/she may continue to keep and use the Chromebook for the duration of the summer. We will plan to collect the Chromebooks at the start of the 2020-2021 school year. We hope that having the use of the Chromebooks has enabled your child to continue with some of their online learning programs as well as connect with his/her teacher through Google Classroom. The online learning programs, such as Lexia, Dreambox and Khan Academy will continue to be available throughout the summer even though Google Classroom will end on May 22, 2020. There will be an IT person on call this summer so if you have any problems with your Chromebook, you can email helpdesk@lakecountyschools.net for support.
It is time to return your Instruments!
If you rented an instrument from the district, we will hold instrument return on Thursday, May 7th from 10:00am-2:00pm and again on Monday, May 11th from 3:00pm-5:00pm. Please drive by to drop your instrument at the High School near the performing arts entrance (top of parking lot). Teachers will be there to receive your instrument. Please remain in your vehicle. If you left your instrument in a locker at school, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Cairns at ccairns@lakecountyschools.net.
Let’s stay connected and show our LCIS crew spirit during our school closure! Please email your photo submissions to Tracy at tvincent@lakecountyschools.net. This week’s theme:
May 4 – May 8 Teacher Appreciation Week – Draw a picture or dress up as your favorite teacher or staff member and tell us why they are important to you.
