LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 12-6-24
Hello LCIS Panthers,
What a wonderful week we’ve had being back together immersed in learning! Across the building students have seamlessly picked up where they left off due to strong structures already in place. We are so proud of our team for the work they are doing.
Shout out to Mr. Corley for orchestrating a beautiful performance last night. It was wonderful to see our 6th grade band in their debut concert. They have already made such great progress and we can’t wait to hear them perform again in the spring. Congratulations to all the vocalists, who sounded wonderful!
6th grade girls basketball practice begins on Monday, Dec. 9th at the LCIS gym. If your child would like to sign up, they still can! Reach out to Amy Peters, the LCSD Athletic Director for more information. 719-293-0105.
All 6th grade students will join the Outward Bound Winter Program on Thursday 12/12/24 from 9-2 at the Leadville Outward Bound Campus.
Course Overview: Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS) is excited to build on our fall Leadership program with LCSD 6th graders! To end their Fall Semester on a high note, LCSD 6th grade students and faculty will return to COBS for a winter-activity centered single-day program to continue building skills and focus on:
1. Bringing the crew together
2. Highlighting inclusiveness and kindness to each other
3. Reflecting on Leadership and the first half of the school year as school leaders
4. Having fun in the snow!
This is a day trip only, NOT an overnight experience. Please plan on your child spending much of their time outdoors on this day and help them prepare with winter clothes. A course overview and packing list will be shared early next week. Lunch will be provided by COBS.
Our LCIS Panthers slowed their IXL skills progress over the holiday break. Please encourage your child to get back into this homework habit. We are looking for students to work on ELA skills for 60 minutes a week and also work on Math skills for 60 minutes a week as their homework. Remember that IXL is designed to help students at their personal skills level, so that the homework should be “just right” for your child.
Our intercom system was out on Thursday and so we weren’t able to call our IXL Skills Master group. We will highlight them in next week’s Friday Afternoon Shout Out (FASO).
We are coming to terms with the harsh reality that over 30% of our students have been chronically absent so far this year. From the classroom perspective, this means that on average six students are often not present for daily lessons and interacting with their peers and teachers. We know that attendance is directly related to academic achievement. Please do everything you can to help your child be at school each and every day. | 3rd90.80%4th92.11%5th93.28%6th93.94% |

Student senate is planning for 60% of the donations to go towards families in Leadville, and 40% to go to the Children’s Hospitals near Denver. They are looking forward to supporting those who are in need this holiday season.
