LCES Families, Happy June! We have been quite busy as usual over here at LCES and we want to thank you, families, for keeping up with all of the activities and events going on at our school. This week our kindergarteners took a field trip to the Fish Hatchery to connect their learning to their “Caring for the Earth” unit of study. The weather seemed to have held out for the day and the kindergartners came back tired but excited for the adventures they had. A quick note about June 19, the last day of school. This day will be an early dismissal day with dismissal starting at 11:00am, similar to how we operate our half day conferences in October and March. Project Dream programs end on June 5, so please make arrangements with the front office regarding transportation and pick up plans. Have a great weekend, see you on Monday! Brandi Lovely, Principal blovely@lakecountyschools.net LCSD Family SurveyWe’d like to invite you to take our LCSD Family Survey. This survey won’t take more than 5 minutes and it gives us valuable feedback on how successful our schools are in supporting you, and how we can improve. You can take the survey multiple times, once for each of the schools your children attend. Take the survey nowThank you so much for your feedback!

DIBELS Update: We would like to shout out and celebrate the reading growth and achievement our students showed during their end of year DIBELS reading assessment. Individual student results will be sent home with report cards in June. First, we are celebrating the tremendous growth of 56 students who moved a color band, meaning their composite score grew enough to move from: red (below grade level) to yellow (approaching grade level), or yellow to green (at grade level), or green to blue (above grade level). Fifty six students is 31% of our total number of students. Next, as a school, we started the year with 55% of students performing below grade level (red) and our end of the year data shows this number decreasing to 33%. This is phenomenal growth that truly shows our student’s ability to learn and grow as well as our teachers and families dedication to each child’s education. We look forward to celebrating this growth and achievement with students the week of June 9-12, where all students will receive a reading growth award during grade level DIBELS donut parties! Thank you for the continued partnership and commitment to your child’s education! May Reading Challenge: Students have really been enjoying the reading challenge again for the month of May! Thank you, families, for prioritizing reading at home as this challenge has been a great opportunity to further motivate students and celebrate the joy of reading in all languages at home. HOWLs Challenge: It is the last quarter of the school year which means it is time for our Quarter 4 HOWLS challenge! Your student will try to earn as many HOWL Dollars as they can by June 9th for the chance to have cotton candy and extra recess with the principals on June 16th! The top six HOWL dollar earners in each class will win. If your student wins, we will send home paper communication as well as a message from the front office. Students can earn HOWL Dollars by showing any of our HOWLs to any staff member in the school. The HOWL that we are focusing on for May is creativity.

Need some Fun and Educational Activities to do with your Preschooler? Check out the ideas below and get ready to have some SUMMER FUN!Fun Summer Themes for PreschoolersColor Theme Preschoolers love to explore colors—and summer is the perfect time for this. Introducing color themes allows children to learn the names of different colors and be creative.Introduce children to color exploration through activities such as mixing paint, making art using different colored paper or objects, sorting objects by color, or matching items of different colors.Consider creating art projects that incorporate colors, such as painting with watercolors and coloring large posters. You can include color-themed supplies and materials like crayons, stickers, finger paint, pencils, markers, activity books, and colored sand for further exploration. Color-mixing projects can be messy, so you may want to bring these activities outdoors in the summer so children can explore and create in an environment that lends itself to easier clean up. Nature Theme The summer months offer opportunities to experience nature in full bloom, and it is a great time to bring the beauty of nature inside. To do this, introduce themes such as animals and plants, or explore habitats like forests, oceans, and deserts.Materials like toys, puppets, nature books and magazines, stuffed animals, and aquariums can help bring nature themes to life. You can also provide items like bug catchers and binoculars for hands-on activities. You can also consider setting up a pretend beach with sand, shells, and other ocean-related items, organizing an outdoor scavenger hunt to help children spot different plants, or reading stories about animals and discussing their characteristics. The original article can be found at:https://mybrightwheel.com/blog/summer-activities-for-preschoolers Rhonda H.
