News From LCHS 5/6/22
Good Morning LCHS Family,
We are barreling towards the finish line hard, as we approach our final weeks. Next week on May 12,13, and 14th we are opening our much anticipated theatrical performance of the classic Wizard of Oz! Please take this opportunity to be part of your school community and come see students perform their hearts out. These opportunities are really how we build community. Next week our top points earners will be headed to the Denver zoo to reward their amazing positive work that they have accomplished this year! Behavior among our students continues to improve, however we could always use more support. We would like to invite any and all parents that have any available time to come visit the campus during the school day and volunteer to spend some time with our students. I want to personally thank all of the parents that have come in and worked with me and our staff to try and improve our wonderful school!
Thank you!
Brian Nelson
LCHS Principal
Welcome! to Kyle Baker (7th Grade Health Teacher): We are excited to welcome Kyle Baker to our teaching team. He is our new Health & PE teacher! Because we are fortunate enough to have him start before the end of the school year, we can offer health class to our 7th graders who did not get it in the first semester. Therefore, starting on Monday, some 7th graders will have a small change to their afternoon elective schedule to accommodate health class.
High School Programming Family Night: We are inviting all family and community members to our HS Programming Family Night on Wednesday, May 18th starting at 7pm in the high school auditorium. We will discuss updates to our high program for next year, as well as graduation requirements. Additionally, staff members from CMC (Colorado Community College) will present information about their partnership with LCHS and enrolling students in college classes for next year.
Spring NWEA Testing: We will have our 3rd and final round of NWEA testing on Wednesday, May 18th (grades 7-12) and Thursday, May 19th (grades 7-8). We use this data to gauge student learning and progress for the year as well as their current academic level. This is one data point that factors into a student’s full academic portfolio. Please ensure that your child is ready to put their best foot forward on these days! Attendance is also extremely important. If your child is not in attendance, we will need to pull them from class at a different time to take the assessments.
9-12 Cornerstones!: We are planning a fun afternoon for our 9-12th graders on Wednesday, May 18th after testing. You will be getting more information about the plans and activities for this Cornerstone event as we get closer to the date! Grades 7-8 will have their Cornerstone Day on June 9th.
8th Grade Celebration Ceremony: We are excited to announce the reinstatement of our annual 8th grade celebration to honor their accomplishments and work throughout Junior High. The ceremony will be held on June 9th from 6:30-7:30pm in the LCHS auditorium. Please keep in mind that grades will not be finalized at this time. The celebration ceremony does not signify promotion.
Finals Week: Finals for students grades 7-11 will take place the week of June 13th. Finals are an important aspect of our academic program. They establish and maintain high expectations for student learning and performance. Finals are also one way students demonstrate their learning for the year and readiness for the next grade level. Please ensure you do not make plans this week. Students must be in attendance. We will only excuse absences for unique circumstances, and it will need to be approved by an administrator. We will not excuse finals themselves. If students miss finals for unexcused reasons, they will be given zero credit. If students miss for excused reasons, they must go in at an alternative time to make them up. Thank you for helping us maintain a high academic standard.
