Hello Lake County Family,
Next week is Thanksgiving, and we all have so much to be thankful for. Things here at the school are moving along. Students are engaged and pushing themselves to be better in every aspect. Tuesday is Thanksgiving lunch. Please come join us and embarrass your child. Finals are coming sooner than we would all like, please see the detailed finals schedule below. Parents please be advised that no one will be exempted from finals. If there is an emergency situation please reach out to our admin team by Monday December 5th.
Panthers please remember that we DO have school Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd!
Thank you,
Brian Nelson
LCHS Principal

Athletics:
Our high school winter sports are underway!! It isn’t too late to join, but it will be soon, if you don’t get to practice ASAP. Contact Amy Peters if you need practice details. We will have a MANDATORY parent meeting for all high school basketball athletes on Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30 pm in the LCHS auditorium.
As we begin a new sports season, I want to remind all parents/athletes of some of the policies in our athletic handbook. These apply to ALL students participating in LCHS athletics and/or activities:
Participation in Lake County athletics is a privilege, not a right. Student-athletes will be expected to follow these school and team policies:
Sportsmanship– We will respect ourselves, teammates, referees, coaches, opponents, and fans. We will play every competition with class. We will not behave in a way that gives our team a negative image. Arguing with an official or swearing at an opponent is unacceptable for athletes as well as fans and family members and will result in loss of playing time or attendance at games.
Grades– CHSAA requires that students be currently enrolled in a minimum of 2.5 units of credit. Student-athletes cannot be failing any classes in order to compete. LCHS checks eligibility every other Thursday afternoon. The results will go into effect the following Monday. Appeals to regain eligibility must be made to Athletic Director Amy Peters. If a player is ineligible, they are still expected to attend practices, but they will not be allowed to travel with the team on a school day. Traveling with the team on a non-school day will be at the coach’s discretion.
Attendance– Student-athletes are expected to attend school daily. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to practice or compete. Attendance reports will be run on game days or on the last school day before a competition, and athletes with unapproved absences will not be able to travel or participate. An athlete’s attendance on Thursday will affect their participation in a Friday or Saturday competition.
Athletes are expected to attend every practice. If an athlete is unable to make a practice, please communicate with a head coach ASAP before that practice.
Behavior– Student athletes are not to (regardless of quantity) use, possess, sell, distribute, or procure any amount of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, other controlled substances or drug paraphernalia or be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other controlled substances anywhere or at any time.
Student athletes may not engage in fighting, which is defined as being involved in a fight as either a participant or witness, anywhere or at any time.
Athletes who violate the drug or fighting policies will still be expected to practice but will be suspended from at least 20% of the total season competition schedule. If the violation happens on an overnight trip, the athlete will be sent home ASAP with a parent or the athletic director.
Travel– Athletes are required to travel with the team to a competition, unless other plans are pre-approved by the head coach or athletic director. Athletes must have written or direct verbal approval from a parent/guardian in order to travel home with anyone other than the team.
Commitment– If you make a commitment to this team, you make it for the whole season. Quitting is NOT an option. If a student does not follow through on their commitment, they will not be eligible for an athletic fee refund and may lose privileges to participate in future sports or activities.
Uniforms– Lost/unreturned uniforms will result in fines of $75 or more. Athletes are expected to take good care of their uniforms/equipment and return it to the team at the end of the season.
Issues– If an athlete or parent has an issue or concern, please contact the coach or athletic director to make an appointment separate from practice or competition. Issues that will not be discussed are playing time, team strategy or matters concerning other athletes.
Eligibility was run on Thursday, November 17. This round of eligibility is effective from Monday, November 21 through Saturday, December 3. Middle school appeals should be addressed to Alison Sprague (asprague@lakecountyschools.net). High school appeals must be made to Amy Peters (apeters@lakecountyschools.net).
