LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 4-19-24
Dear LCIS Families:
We are incredibly proud of our LCIS Panthers for their effort and perseverance on CMAS these past two weeks. All year students have been engaging in new learning in their classrooms and their CMAS results allows them to see the growth that they have made this year. Amazing work, students!
Our last round of CMAS perseverance winners choose their prizes.
Our remaining prizes will be presented at our Community Meeting this week as we pull more winning tickets that have accumulated over the past two weeks of testing.
This past week we had a special musical performance brought to us by Swallow Hill Music. Our two talented performers played music from a collection titled Pioneer Music of the Mountain West. The performers took us on a musical journey through the early settlements of the Mountain West. Songs they played included De Colores and Old Susana.
Our third grade students will host this month’s Community Meeting and share their learning from the ELA unit, Astronomy: Our Solar System and Beyond. Also, we will recognize our Scholars of the Month for the habit of perseverance. Please join us for this fun event on Wednesday, April 24 at 8:05 in the LCIS Gym!
We regret to inform you that Ms. Campbell will not be continuing as a 6th grade teacher this school year. Her last day with your child will be Thursday, April 25, 2024. Her decision to leave was a personal one. For the remaining weeks of this semester Ms. Campbell’s class will be taught by a substitute teacher. The remaining 6th grade teachers along with the school administration will provide a strong network of support to our substitute teachers to ensure that lessons are well planned and delivered and that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
The Lake County School District Board of Education continues the process to hire the next Superintendent and is looking for volunteers to sit on stakeholder interviews. See below for more information about how to apply for this position.
The Board of Education will also host a Town Hall and Meet and Greet on May 10th at Lake County High School. Tentative time for the event is a 6:30 pm start. More information will be sent closer to the event.
Residents and workers in Lake County and Leadville—please take this survey about housing challenges!
Lake County and the City of Leadville are conducting a housing needs assessment to understand the current needs of residents. This survey is a critical element of that assessment. This information will help the county and city create programs to better address housing needs.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LakeCountyHousing
Please take this survey if you:
¾ Live in any part of Lake County the majority of the year.
¾ Are retired or work in any part of Lake County. This includes if you live outside of the county and commute into Lake County for your job.
Do not take this survey if you own seasonal or vacation properties that you occupy occasionally or own long- or short-term rentals in Lake County.
¾ Your responses are confidential. Your name or place of residence will not be linked to your survey.
¾ This survey is not associated with any political party or election or ballot issue.
¾ The survey takes about 12 minutes to complete. If you complete it by April 30 you will have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.
Tell your friends, the people you work with, and family members about the survey!
If you require a reasonable accommodation to participate in the survey, please contact hello@rootpolicy.com or call 970-880-1415 x102. An example of a reasonable accommodation would be taking the survey by phone because you have difficulty reading and/or do not have a screen reader that can assist you with the survey.
Si prefiere hablar con alguien en español, envíe un correo electrónico a avilia@rootpolicy.com.
Thank you in advance for your participation.

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
Third grade did a phenomenal job with CMAS! Now we are finishing out unit on space. Please join us for our community meeting on 4/24 to see what we’ve been working on! In math students are beginning their last module of the year all about geometry.
PROJECT DREAM UPDATE:
On 4/26 , we will have a practice Lockdown Drill at Lake County Intermediate School for the students attending Project Dream. We practice this drill so that we may familiarize the staff and students with our expectations and routines in case we are ever faced with a crisis.
In a Lockdown, students and teachers are trained to follow “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”. Students move away from doors and windows and maintain silence. Teachers lock the classroom doors, turn out the lights, account for students and wait for the First Responders to open the door. We practice this Standard Response Protocol to ensure safety in our school should an emergency arise.
Please take this opportunity to talk with your child about safety at school and at home. Please contact Taylor Trelka at 719-427-7003 if you have any questions about our Standard Response Protocol or lockdown practice.
