Hello Families,
We had another great week of learning at LCES. Students in grades K-2 are working hard to build their literacy skills through the daily CKLA work in the classroom as well as in small group intervention time. We will have our final end of year DIBELS assessment the week of May 6th to see how much students have grown in their reading this school year. Please encourage your child to read at home every day as well to support this growth.
Thursday was also our Panther day, students got to work on front projects during special’s.
Swallow Hill Music Assembly:
We are excited to partner with Swallow Hill Music (see website here) to bring a fun music concert to our school on Thursday, April 18th for all students preschool-2nd grade. The funds for this experience come from Rocky Mountain High Reading Council Book Basket Raffle. The concert will take place in the gym and will begin at 10:00, running until 10:45. We are looking forward to this fun experience for our students! Parents are welcome to attend, please sign in at the office before heading down to the gym.
Thanks for continuing to send your child with warm snow clothes everyday and we will continue to go outside and as you know the weather can change quickly throughout the day. Also, boots are still recommended as the snow is melting on the playground.
I would also like to share with families that this will be my last year as principal at Lake County Elementary. Our family will be moving out of the community at the end of the school year. I have loved being a part of the Leadville community these past six years, three in the classroom and three as principal. Again, thank you for allowing me the privilege to work with you and your students.
Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations you would like to share.

Principal, LCES

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Conner Lenhard- Behavior Paraprofessional
Mr. Lenhard grew up in Leadville and currently works as our behavior paraprofessional. He loves red lobster and in his free time enjoys ice skating or skiing. When asked what inspires Conner, he said “Dogs, they can love people more than most people.” Conner lives his life through the song “Don’t stop me now” and his dream vacation would be to go heli-skiing in Alaska. Thank you for all you do, Mr. Lenhard!
Send Mr. Lenhard an encouraging note at clenhard@lakecountyschools.net.

Literacy News:
Dear Family,
For the month of April, we are encouraging students to read daily at home. If they bring back the completed log with your signature, they will get a special prize from us. We will also create a reading wall to display their reading log. You can read together, have your child read to you, or spend time reading to your child. Afterwards, discuss what the story or topic was about. To increase motivation, have them choose what interests them. Most importantly, have fun and READ!
Please look in your child’s Thursday folder next week. We appreciate your collaboration in supporting our students’ reading achievement.
Ms. Mulcey and Ms. Newton, Literacy Intervention

Good afternoon,
We are working on updating the 2018 Housing Needs Assessment.
I would really appreciate your help in circulating the resident survey to your staff and families.
From Root Policy Research:
Hello stakeholders and residents in Lake County. Thank you for your interest in the housing needs assessment. The resident survey we are conducting to inform the needs assessment is live! Below is introductory language you can use to let people know about the survey via email and/or on social media. Thank you for your participation in the survey and for letting others know about the survey.
********************************************************************************************************************
Residents and workers in Lake County and Leadville—please take this survey about housing challenges!
Lake County and the City of Leadville are conducting a housing needs assessment to understand the current needs of residents. This survey is a critical element of that assessment. This information will help the county and city create programs to better address housing needs.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LakeCountyHousing
Please take this survey if you:
¾ Live in any part of Lake County the majority of the year.
¾ Are retired or work in any part of Lake County. This includes if you live outside of the county and commute into Lake County for your job.
Do not take this survey if you own seasonal or vacation properties that you occupy occasionally or own long- or short-term rentals in Lake County.
¾ Your responses are confidential. Your name or place of residence will not be linked to your survey.
¾ This survey is not associated with any political party or election or ballot issue.
¾ The survey takes about 12 minutes to complete. If you complete it by April 30 you will have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.
Tell your friends, the people you work with, and family members about the survey!
If you require a reasonable accommodation to participate in the survey, please contact hello@rootpolicy.com or call 970-880-1415 x102. An example of a reasonable accommodation would be taking the survey by phone because you have difficulty reading and/or do not have a screen reader that can assist you with the survey.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LAKECOUNTYHOUSING?lang=es
