News From LCHS 9/8/23
Dear LCHS Community,
It has been a great week celebrating homecoming! We have seen a lot of school spirit with our students and staff. Float Building was a success. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students at games, the pep rally, and parade! The positive energy throughout the building was great.
This Saturday our homecoming dance will be held this Saturday from 7-10PM at the high school. Please note that students who choose to leave during the dance will not be readmitted. Doors to the dance will open at 7:00PM.
Data Celebration: This week we met our tardy goal! 90% of our students were on-time 96% of the time!
Data Growth: Our overall school attendance this week was 86%. Please see the attached documents in English and Spanish regarding the importance of school attendance. Some strategies and talking points are also included.
Next week, we will be announcing our September attendance challenge goal as well as incentives for students. We want to celebrate our students’ successes.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,
Scott Carroll

Hello Parents of the Class of 2024!
Welcome to your child’s senior year. I know that thinking about all the steps to plan for next year can feel confusing and overwhelming. I will do my best to communicate all the things we are doing at the high school to support you and your child as you navigate this next year. To begin, I want to let you know about upcoming events that you should put on your calendar.

Colorado Free Application Days this year is Oct. 17th -19th. If students submit their application to almost any school in Colorado during this time, their application fee will be waived. Students have started working with Mr. Remsen and I to fill out college applications. Ideally all college applications should be submitted by the end of October.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is making changes to their application. Here is a link to an article with more information. The date for when the application will open has not been set- it will most likely be sometime in December.
More information about financial aid including FAFSA/CASFA and scholarships will be sent out later this fall. In the meantime feel free to contact me with any questions!
Sincerely,
Kelly Hofer

College Fair:
In 2021, LCSD was privileged to receive the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant from the CDE. As a part of this grant, each teacher at LCHS has been given a large one-time sum of money to buy books for classroom libraries.
The goal of these classroom libraries is to spark or deepen the love of books through choice reading. These books will be tied to a subject standard and offered as part of a choice reading program to support classroom instruction. Our dream is to find the “perfect book” for every student.
As strong proponents of community involvement, we would love to have your input. Which books have changed your life? Which books could you not put down? Which books have piqued your interest in a specific topic?

Our Panther teams had another strong week. The XC teams looked fantastic at their home meet last Saturday! Keira King won the HS girls race, and Wilson Anderson was the individual champion of the MS boys. Lake County took 8 out of 12 podium spots (top 3 in the race) on the day and won the team titles for the HS girls and MS boys.
HS girls volleyball beat Frontier League rival Fort Lupton on Tuesday, are 8-0 on the season and are ranked 3rd out of all 2A programs.
Home events next week:
Monday- HS Soccer v Salida, 4:00 pm at Community Park Field
Saturday- HS Volleyball v Arrupe Jesuit, C team starts at 10 am, JV approx 11 am and Varsity about 12 pm
Saturday- HS Soccer v St Mary’s, 2 pm at Community Park Field
Please come out and support your Panther teams!!
This year we will be charging for ALL GYM sporting events- high school and middle school.
Ticket prices will be $7/adults and $5/seniors for HS games and $3/adults and $1/seniors for MS games. We will NOT be taking cash at the front door, but we will take credit cards at the door.
You can also buy your tickets online in advance at: https://gofan.co/app/school/CO11697
The Lake County Annual Pass will get you into any home event- HS or MS, volleyball or basketball.
Reminder: Lake County students will need to show their school ID to get free entry into the volleyball games. We will NOT be asking for parent permission for 7-12th graders to attend home games as long as student behavior remains appropriate.

Blood Drive:
During National Preparedness Month in September, Vitalant reminds all eligible donors giving blood is vital to ensuring an adequate supply is ready to help save lives every day, and when a natural or manmade disaster strikes.
Most people are eligible to donate blood, yet only about 3% do. The more people who step up, the more we can avoid delays in patient care.
