LCIS FASO 4/2/21
Hello LCIS Families,
We are so excited to be starting our new schedule on Monday! We’re looking forward to increased academic time with the students and the continued support of our activity partners; Project Dream, GOL, and Full Circle.
- Starting Monday April 5, 2021
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are currently enrolled in our hybrid model will now attend school Monday – Thursday with their classroom teacher for the full day.
- 6th grade will remain in the hybrid model for the remainder of the school year.
Important Safety Measures to begin on April 5, 2021. With the increased number of students in our classrooms, safety is our top priority. It is critical for the safety of your child and others that masks are worn properly. If your child is not wearing their mask properly they will receive a detention that will be served during morning recess.
Band and Choir will be starting again in person at LCIS on April 5th! Students in 5th and 6th grade who are interested in participating in choir or band will need to have their parent/guardian sign an “Assumption of Risk” to engage in this opportunity. Please reach out to Mrs. Cairns with any questions or concerns. ccairns@lakecountyschools.net or 719-486-6830.
If you haved moved or gotten a new phone number, please call the office so that we can update the school records for your child. Thank you!
Even though school meals continue to be free for all students through this school year due to the United States Department of Agriculture school meal waivers, a second round of Pandemic-EBT benefits will be available soon, only for students who are eligible for Free or Reduced priced school meals (no additional P-EBT application is required). If your family has not applied for Free and Reduced school meal benefits for this current school year, we encourage all families, including our virtual students, to apply. If your family applied for Free and Reduced priced school meals earlier in the year and benefits were denied, you may apply again if you believe that your household size or income has changed, and you may now be eligible.
If you need an application you may pick up one at any school front office, use this link to download the application as a PDF – https://www.lakecountyschools.net/for-families/nutrition/nutrition-application/ or contact Leslee Torsell, ltorsell@lakecountyschools.net 719-486-6954. Applications can be turned in at any school front office Monday-Thursday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, or mailed to Leslee Torsell, Lake County High School, 1004 W. 4th St., Leadville, CO 80461.

We’re looking forward to another great summer of Rockies Rock!
We are excited to announce a FREE 3-part Family Learning Institute for parents and families of Lake County students. This series is a partnership between LCSD, Full
Circle, and other health agencies in our county. The goal of this series is to give parents more knowledge and tools to promote health and wellbeing of the family. The sessions will be held virtually on April 14th, May 12th, and June 9th from 6-7:30pm.
We will cap the series at 30 participants to provide us with enough time to answer questions and have good discussions.
*At the end of the series, families that attend all 3 sessions will receive incentives that promote health and wellness*: 1) Farm bucks to spend on local produce at Cloud City Conservation Center, 2) A free one year family membership to the Get Outdoors Leadville Gear Library, and 3) a one-day family pass to the Lake County Aquatic Center.
Please help us spread the word! Parents can use the attached flyer with the Q4 code to link to the sign-up survey, or use the following link to click on: https://forms.gle/bnv9hyNiDqPBAR3N9
Reading is Awesome!
Mrs. Martin, one of our awesome virtual teachers, is holding “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. This book tells the story of a boy named Brian who is forced to survive in the wilderness of northern Canada after he is in a plane crash. It is a Newberry Honor winner and one of America’s Best Loved Novels on the PBS Great American Novel List. It is also one of Mrs. Martin’s all time favorite books to read to/with 5th graders!
