LCIS FASO 3-19-20
Hello LCIS Families,
Spring break is here! We’re all looking forward to some rest and relaxation. Over the break, please encourage your child to play outside and remind them that they can still access their IXL account to practice math and their online library accounts, such as Epic Books and Sora. Also check to see that your child came home with a spring break homework packet and encourage them to work on it each day.
As you may have heard, the LCSD school board voted to accept the instructional plans proposed by each school. For LCIS this means that:
- Starting Monday March 29, 2021
- 6th grade students who are currently enrolled in our hybrid model will remain in the hybrid model for the remainder of the school year
- A-cohort will begin with academics 7:45-12:05 and Project Dream 12:05-3:30
- B-cohort will begin with Project Dream 7:45-12:05 and academics 12:05-3:30
- Any students who are currently enrolled in our virtual model will remain in this model for the remainder of the school year.
- Starting Monday April 5, 2021
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are currently enrolled in our hybrid model will now attend school Monday – Thursday with their classroom teacher for the full day.
- These students will still have the opportunity to participate in Project Dream activities during the school day on a rotating schedule. Once the schedule is finalized, it will be shared with families.
- For more details about our full day model watch our video here. This video was created prior to the board vote.
Band and Choir will be starting again in person at LCIS. This will be for interested 5th and 6th grade students. Student’s families will need to sign an “Assumption of Risk” to engage in this opportunity. These papers have been sent home with students and will continue to be sent home after spring break. Please reach out to Mrs. Cairns with any questions or concerns. ccairns@lakecountyschools.net or 719-486-6830.
Sports Update: Like everything else this year, our sports seasons have been modified to help keep our students safe and healthy. We are so thankful that we have been able to allow our students at least a small window of participation in athletics this year. We have just completed a shortened girls’ basketball season and we are headed into the volleyball and girls’ soccer seasons. Thank you so much for supporting our student athletes – we are looking forward to and hoping for longer seasons next year!
- Girls’ Volleyball
- 1st practice is 3/29/21
- Season ends 4/12/21
- Coaches Kala Matzdorf & Felicia Federico
- Girls’ Soccer
- 1st practice is 3/15/21
- Season ends 5/15/21
- Coach Julie Guzman
- MS Boys’ Soccer – not offered through the school district this year
- MS Track – practice will start at the end of April
Students who are interested in signing up for volleyball may do so by using this link. Even though volleyball and soccer are running at the same time, the girls can play on both teams. The games won’t conflict since all of the soccer games will take place on Saturdays. The student athletes should choose one sport as their primary focus and communicate this decision to both coaches.
Athletes; please make sure you have a valid physical and all athletic paperwork completed before practice starts on March 29th. If you have questions about your paperwork please email Alison Sprague : asprague@lakecountyschools.net

We are excited to announce a FREE 3-part Family Learning Institute for parents and families of Lake County students. This series is a partnership between LCSD, Full Circle, and other health agencies in our county. The goal of this series is to give parents more knowledge and tools to promote health and wellbeing of the family. The sessions will be held virtually on April 14th, May 12th, and June 9th from 6-7:30pm.
We will cap the series at 30 participants to provide us with enough time to answer questions and have good discussions.
*At the end of the series, families that attend all 3 sessions will receive incentives that promote health and wellness*: 1) Farm bucks to spend on local produce at Cloud City Conservation Center, 2) A free one year family membership to the Get Outdoors Leadville Gear Library, and 3) a one-day family pass to the Lake County Aquatic Center.
