CCHS Students See Jane Goodall in Denver!
On March 14th, Cloud City High School students went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to hear Dr. Jane Goodall present her story and speak about her commitment to the environment. Also in attendance was First Gentleman Marlon Reis. The Cloud City High School Roots and Shoots group received a personal invitation and free tickets to the event!
Dr. Goodall’s Roots and Shoots Program is a global youth program that flourishes in more than 60 countries. Through Roots & Shoots, participants identify and address problems in their communities, while becoming the compassionate citizens that our planet needs. With over 5800 student projects around the world, Roots and Shoots is making an impact on humans, animals, and the environment.
Dr. Goodall replied to several questions from various school groups, the first being a question from Cloud City! “What is one of the most important things that individuals can do to help combat climate change?” Her response was to be a wise consumer, know where your products come from, how they are made, the people and environment that is impacted from the production of the product, how long the product will last and what happens to it after use. This was truly a lifetime experience for these students and will set the stage for upcoming service-learning projects and community engagement.
Following Dr. Goodall’s presentation, students were provided lunch from the Jane Goodall Institute and allowed free admission to the museum. Popular exhibits were the Space Odyssey, Prehistoric Journey, Rock and Mineral Exhibition and the Hall of Animals.
