Family Communication 4/28/23
LCES Families,
We have had a great week of learning at LCES! On Thursday, at our Community Meeting our second graders demonstrated their learning on The Civil War and people of that time such as Harriet Tubman and Abraham Lincoln. We also celebrated our students of the month for curiosity. Congratulations to all those students who continually ask great questions and always want to learn more. On May 25th, please join us at our next community meeting hosted by our specials teachers as we recognize the habit of creativity.
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week Coming:
May 8th-12th is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Our parent volunteer team is collecting notes to give to teachers and staff. If you would like to send a note to your student’s teacher or another staff member, there will be a collection bin in the front office starting on Monday, May 1st. If you would like to join the parent volunteer team heading up this work, please see the note below.
“May 8-12th is National Teacher Appreciation week! We want to invite you to show your appreciation in any way that your family wants, and particularly encourage you to write notes to members of staff and faculty who make a difference in your child’s life. If you’re interested in organizing with others, there is a group of LCES parents working together to coordinate gestures of appreciation. Please reach out to Elizabeth Vish, one of the organizers, at lcesteacherappreciationweek@gmail.com (not officially affiliated with LCES) if you want to be part of that effort. And look for another email at the end of April with specific opportunities to contribute to that coordinated parent led effort.”
Art Show!
Mark your calendars for the LCSD Art Show! On May 18th from 5-7, come see the amazing art created by students in grades PK-12 and create some art of your own at the activity booths. Please note that activities cost between $1-$6 as this is the biggest fundraiser for our art department.
Upcoming Events and Field Trips:
We have a lot of events and field trips planned for these last weeks of school. Please check the “This Month at LCES” for days that these are scheduled and be sure to be checking your students Thursday Folders for information coming home for grade level specific events. If you have any questions, please reach out to the front office or your student’s teacher.
Thank you all for a great week! As we near the end of the school year, we have a lot of planned activities and field work trips for our classes. Please be looking for information in the coming weeks on these events.

The State of Colorado passed a new law (HB21-1055) that allows for a district to consider paying future School Board Members. The Lake County School Board sees the benefit in allowing pay for board members to recruit and attract community members who may otherwise have financial barriers to serving on the Board. We would like to hear your thoughts on the idea of compensating school board members.
Please provide your input by May 15. You are also invited to share your input during public participation at upcoming school board meetings. These meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30PM at the District Administration Office (315 W. 5th Street). We appreciate your input.
