Hello Families,
We look forward to the many fun events, activities, and warmer weather as we are almost in April! Please continue to send your child with warm clothing for recess as we know spring snow is possible anytime. This week we celebrated the HOWL of perseverance and awarded students for student of the month. Kindergarten led our community meeting and shared their posters all about the seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Thank you to the kindergarten students and teachers for a successful meeting and congratulations to our students of the month!
Lockdown Drill:
Please see the letter below for information on our planned lockdown drill for next week on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Preschool and Kindergarten Round-Up!
If you have a child who will be ready for Preschool or Kindergarten next year, join us for our round-up open house night April 1st from 4-7.

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Ms. Mandi Newton- Literacy Paraprofessional
Ms. Mandi grew up in Alamosa and Leadville. Mandi has worked as a cosmetologist, para educator, and now she is on our literacy team as a literacy instructional paraprofessional. Mandi is a grandma to four gorgeous girls and two beautiful boys. Her children and grandchildren inspire her to be her best every day. Mandi’s dream vacation would be to relax on a beach with sunshine on her face. In her spare time, Mandi enjoys camping and loving on all her babies. Thank you for all you do, Ms. Mandi!
Send Ms. Mandi an encouraging note at mnewton@lakecountyschools.net

Literacy News:
Dear Family,
For the month of April, we are encouraging students to read daily at home. If they bring back the completed log with your signature, they will get a special prize from us. We will also create a reading wall to display their reading log. You can read together, have your child read to you, or spend time reading to your child. Afterwards, discuss what the story or topic was about. To increase motivation, have them choose what interests them. Most importantly, have fun and READ!
Please look in your child’s Thursday folder next week. We appreciate your collaboration in supporting our students’ reading achievement.
Ms. Mulcey and Ms. Newton, Literacy Intervention
Attendance: If your student must be gone from school, please call Marissa or Zee to let them know so they can appropriately mark your child’s absence. All absences with a doctor’s note are marked as excused. If out for multiple days, your child’s teacher can put together work so your student doesn’t fall behind academically. Our attendance percentage goal for students is 94%. Kindergarten through second grade, for the month of January our attendance was 90% and for the month of February our attendance was 91%. Thank you for partnering with us and your child to maintain their attendance at school so students can experience academic success.
