News Form LCHS 2/13/23
Good afternoon LCHS Parents and Community,
Saturday’s dance was great! A huge thank you to our Student Senate for pulling everything together! The weather is turning on us this week. It’s becoming potentially dangerous. Please take extra caution and give yourself a little extra time when driving around town this week. We here at LCHS have been moved by the huge outpouring of support for our beloved staff member Jorge Gutierrez. This community really does come together in times of need.

A Message from Lake County Commissioner
Colorado Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households have been getting an extra amount of benefits every month because of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. These extra benefits are called “Emergency Allotments or Max Allotments” and most households have been getting in addition to their regular SNAP benefits. These Emergency Allotments were authorized by Congress, but they are temporary, and will be ending at the end February 2023, because of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023.
What is SNAP?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income households in Colorado purchase food. It provides a monthly benefit that helps families and individuals buy the food they need for good health. SNAP is part of a federal nutrition program to help low-income households purchase food.
How is Lake County Government Responding?
Lake County Human Services is coordinating with the state of Colorado on communication materials, frequently asked questions, and tips for making the transition to pre-pandemic SNAP benefit payments. Lake County Human Services will lead the communications in our community and coordinate with community partners to ensure that all SNAP households understand the change in their federal benefits.
To help SNAP households with this transition the Lake County Commissioners have set aside American Rescue Plan Act funding to help SNAP households avoid a cliff effect in benefits at the end of February.
Lake County Government is working on more communications materials for SNAP households and community partners. If you have any questions, please reach out to any BOCC member, County Manager Tim Bergman, or Human Services Director Janeen McGee.
What can SNAP households do to prepare for the end of max allotments?
The state has estimated a $90 per person reduction in monthly SNAP allotments ($360 for a household of 4). Families can stock up on non-perishable items. SNAP recipients don’t need to spend all electronic benefit transfer (EBT) in the same month they are issued and can roll over EBT benefits to the next month.
Lake County DHS will be releasing more detailed information, plans and communication materials next week.
Thank you, for your continued support to our community and SNAP households,
Sarah Mudge
