Welcome Back from LCHS Principal
Dear Lake County Students and Families,
Welcome to the new school year!
Our theme and guiding statement as we begin our 2023-2024 school year is “Our students can and will…” This is a sentiment that I believe our building can embrace and and collectively build upon to further our mission and vision. We will have opportunities throughout the year for students, parents, staff, and community to add to the above statement. As we begin this new journey we will reflect on our past, prepare for our present, and plan for our future. I am excited to work alongside students, staff, parents, and our community as the incoming principal for Lake County High School. We have incredible potential to not only be a great school but a special place where all of our stakeholders can thrive, feel included and achieve their potential. I am personally committed to supporting our staff, students, and families in this work.
Our work this year will be focused on rebuilding culture and community through restorative practices. As a result, we plan to improve our building-wide sense of belonging, behavior, attendance, and academic outcomes. In addition to this work, I am looking forward to building strong partnerships with our community so Lake County High School can reach its full potential.
Here at LCHS, students have the opportunity to participate in sports, the arts, and other extracurricular activities. We know that when students are engaged in these activities they tend to enjoy their experiences more. Please reach out to Amy Peters (apeters@lakecountyschools.net) for more information!
Priorities:
- Re-engage restorative practices to build relationships and community.
- Engage the whole child and family through both positive and corrective communication.
- Reinforce the importance and value of attending school.
A few updates (more to come as the year progresses):
- We are thrilled to welcome the following new staff members to our building:
- Anderson Ferrer will be joining us as our Native Spanish Language Teacher.
- Dylan Rodwick will be joining us as our Career Exploration, Capstone, and Theatre Teacher.
- Lisa Forget will be joining us as our 8th Grade Math Teacher.
- Lindsey Cade and Maggie Kane will be joining the admin team as our new Assistant Principals. If you are able to come we will be holding a “Meet the Admin Team” during orientation conferences on Monday, August 7th from 5:30PM – 6:00PM in the cafeteria.
- Scheduling Appointments with Administrators
- This year, we are working to make sure families have the ability to schedule appointments with administrators. One of the two assistant principals will be available every morning from 7:45AM – 8:30AM for drop-in appointments. If you need to schedule an appointment please reach out to the front office.
- This year, I will be holding an office day for appointments. This is to ensure that I am consistently able to accommodate meetings with parents, students, staff, and community. The second reason is to ensure that throughout the week I am also able to be visible and present throughout our building. These will start off on Tuesday’s and as the year progresses we will figure out rotating days to accommodate various schedules. If something is urgent and/or you need another time, please do not hesitate to reach out. To schedule an appointment please contact Fernanda Villarreal at fvillarreal@lakecountyschools.net or 719-486-6974
- Feedback
- Parent/Guardian Focus Groups
- Throughout the year, we will be holding parent focus groups to ask specific questions about the school, your experiences, and the experience of your student. We will communicate these dates out in advance so families can plan.
- Student Focus Groups
- Similar to the parent focus groups, we will hold student focus groups to gain perspective from our students on their school experiences.
- Panorama Survey
- This survey is given to receive feedback primarily on school climate & culture as well as student and staff relationships. This will be given in the fall and in the spring.
- Parent/Guardian Focus Groups
- Coffee Chats
- We are excited to bring these back this year! We will hold them monthly and rotate throughout the year with different times to accommodate various schedules. During these we will give updates on what is happening, listen to feedback, and tour the building.
We look forward to welcoming families into the building for our orientation conferences on Monday, August 7th! Please make sure to schedule a time with your child’s crew teacher through this link or by contacting the front office.
As this year progresses please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions, suggestions, or concerns. We are here to build capacities, honor voice/perspective, and take Lake County High School to the next level. As we go through the school year, we will share our school-wide goals, be transparent about our shortcomings and celebrate our successes.
All the best,
Scott Carroll
