News From LCHS 1/12/24
Dear LCHS Community,
We had a nice and productive first week back here at LCHS. We are looking forward to a great second semester. As we wrapped up the first semester
Highlights from first semester
Half of our students have a B average (3.0) or higher.
Over half of our students met our attendance goal of 88.5%.
89% of our students were on time to class at least 90% of the time.
We still want to reflect on our goals and where we need to continue to improve.
Our on time to class goal was 90% of our students would be on time to class at least 90% of the time. We made significant improvements in this first semester and 89% of our students were on time to class at least 90% of the time.
Our attendance goal overall was 88.5% and our overall school attendance was 84%. This semester, attendance is one of our major growth areas. Administration and support staff are working to develop systems and structures to better support our students who struggle to attend school.
As we go into this semester, we want to reset a couple of our expectations. We have seen a great uptick over this past year in students and their cell phone use at school. More and more research is coming out of how distracting cell phones can be during the school day. We know that many parents want their students to have their devices and we want to help students engage and participate more in their classes. Students are allowed to use their devices before school, during lunch, and after school. If students are using their cell phones/airpods during class or passing periods the following is our procedures:
1. Teacher will ask the student to put the phone/airpod away.
2. If a student uses the phone again in the same period it will be put with the teacher for the remainder of the period and students can get it at the end of the period.
3. If the student does not follow directions, admin/support staff will be called and the phone will remain in the front office for the remainder of the day. If this happens three times, a parent meeting may be required to discuss next steps.
As a reminder, campus is closed for grades 7-10 during lunch. If students wish to leave a campus for lunch a parent/guardian needs to come to the building and sign them out.
ACCESS testing for all 7-12 ELD students will begin the week of January 15th. This is a test that helps us determine what language services are needed for students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Results of the assessment will be shared with families in the Spring.
Throughout January and into early February students in 7-10 Math and ELA will be taking their mid-year NWEA assessments. These will be during their class periods and we will not be using alternative schedules so this becomes routine in their content classes. Teachers and students will be working on goal setting prior to the assessment and administration is working on incentives for students. Data will be shared at March conferences.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,
Scott Carroll
