LCIS SNSO 11/8/20
Hello LCIS Families,
Thank you for all of your support in encouraging your child to follow our social distancing procedures. You have been keeping your child home when they are ill, sending them with their health screener, and ensuring that they have a proper fitting mask. This really helps us maintain a safe school environment.
This week LCIS students will take an online assessment for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math through a platform called Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). Students will learn how to navigate the system on Monday and then take their tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. Make ups will be offered on Thursday.
These are nationally normed assessments that will provide us with data on how our students are progressing towards their academic goals.
The Knights of Columbus have provided warm winter clothing for students in Lake County for the past several years and are going to do so again this year. Order forms went home with students last week and are due no later than Thursday, November12th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the LCIS office.
LCIS is getting a safety upgrade! Cameras will be installed that will cover most of the exterior of the building including the playground. A few cameras will be added to the interior to cover common areas such as the front entry.
Do you want a voice in the future of LCSD? Do you have thoughts and input about the decisions that affect local education? Would you like to advise the Board of Education? The District Accountability Committee (DAC) might be for you! Join us on November 23 on zoom link here:
(https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83300419706?pwd=dmxydjZKT0puQmF3alZ6YVoxMVlCQT09), from 5:00PM-6:30PM to learn about the DAC and see if you might like to be a part of it. There is no commitment required.
The DAC:
- Is designed to give stakeholders a voice in decisions impacting our schools
- Will be made up of 6 members, including parents, local community representatives and LCSD staff members
- Will meet 4-6 times per year
- Will provide critical advice to the Superintendent and Board of Education on topics such as:
- The school district budget
- Teaching and assessment
- The district’s goals and priorities
We need your voice at the table!

Elizabeth Chavez Rios, Ms. Leah, and Ashley Aguilar Hernandez
Ms. Leah is reading “How Tia Lola Came to Visit Stay” by Julia Alvarez. It tells the story of Miguel, who has moved to Vermont after his parents split. Tía Lola, his quirky, carismática, and maybe magical aunt makes his life even more unpredictable when she arrives from the Dominican Republic to help out his Mami. Books are so exciting! Please remember to read to your child in English OR Spanish!
