LCIS FASO
Hello LCIS Families,
This week the students at LCIS will be taking the NWEA assessment (Northwest Evaluation Association). This is a really powerful assessment that tests ELA and math and gives the teachers instant feedback and data for planning future lessons and individualizing instruction. Students took NWEA in late fall and this spring information will allow us to see the growth they made this year and tell us how the pandemic and remote learning have impacted our student’s progress. We are sure that our teachers and students are ready to rise to any challenges we may see from this data. Thank you for helping us prioritize education as we finish this unusual school year.
Homework will continue to be sent home through the end of the school year. Students will be allowed to keep their chromebooks over the summer and will be expected to bring them back during orientation conferences in August. Students will continue to have access to all of their online learning platforms through Clever. We hope that students will continue to practice math and reading daily. Tech support will not be available over the summer.
Students in Ms. Finck’s 5th grade class are continuing to study Jackie Robinson and his fight to lead social change in Baseball. They are currently writing an opinion essay answering the question, “Which was the most important factor (or factors) for Jackie Robinson’s success in leading social change?”
Students created some sidewalk art during 3rd grade recess. It was so nice to have some sunshine this week!
Lake County MS boys soccer will be kicking off our summer season next Thursday, May 20, at 6 pm in the community field with a parent meeting. This is for incoming 6, 7th and 8th graders. We will answer any questions and give more information about summer training and the coming season. For more information, please contact Megan Parocha: mparocha@lakecountyschools.net or Stephanie Radilla: sradilla@lakecountyschools.net

We are already thinking about next year! If your child will be in 6th grade next year, they will need a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) immunization before the 2021-2022 school year. Please call the LCIS office at 719-486-6830 if you have any questions.
Reading is Awesome!
Ms. Limoges, one of our fabulous paraprofessionals, just finished reading “Holes” by Louis Sachar to the students in her room. The book centers on an unlucky teenage boy named Stanley Yelnats who is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention center in a desert in Texas, after being falsely accused of theft. Stanley overcomes a lot of challenges to prove his innocence in the end. It’s a great book!
