LCIS FASO 5-28-21
Hello LCIS Families,
We are grateful for the service of our heroes this Memorial Day Weekend. We are all looking forward to a long, four day, weekend and coming back ready for a strong finish to our school year. Remember that we have no school on Monday, May 31, but we do have school on Friday June 4. It’s hard to believe that June is already here and it’s certainly new territory for us to hold school during June! Thank you for continuing to hold your routines for your child to ensure that they complete their homework and are well rested and ready for school every day.
There are lots of things going on this week as we begin to wrap up the school year. Our 3rd graders will be going to Twin Lakes and the Leadville Fish Hatchery on Tuesday to complete their study of our water system. The 6th graders will walk over to LCHS to have a mini orientation day as they are becoming 7th graders in just a few short months. The seniors will come over to LCIS on Friday for the traditional “Senior Walk” to celebrate their school careers at Lake County School District. June is definitely a transition month for all of our students!
Our 5th grade students went to the Leadville Fish Hatchery last Wednesday. Students were able to learn about water insects and animals that live in the area, Leave No Trace camping and, of course, fishing! The Friends of the Fish Hatchery provided a wonderful lunch and the whole experience was a highlight of our 2nd semester! We are so lucky to live in such a great community!

Reading is Awesome!
Fourth grade started a new ELA module on Responding to Inequalities. Specifically, this module focuses on the U.S. Woman’s Suffrage movement in the early 1900s. Students are reading “The Hope Chest” by Karen Schwabach which is centered around a 4th grade student who becomes involved with suffragists and embraces their goals and objectives. With warm and sunny weather, 4th graders took advantage of the outdoor field right by the 4th grade wing to learn outdoors!
