We were able to enjoy an amazing concert this week! Thank you to Mrs Cairns, Mr. Wyatt, Mr. Carroll, Mrs. Baker, and Mrs. Schaefer for all of their hard work and dedication to our students and their musical enrichment. We are so impressed with the talent displayed during the concert that encompassed students in grade 3-12. It was a really big group of really talented students!
The 3-12 grade band performs conducted by Mrs. Cairns and accompanied by Mr. Carroll.
The 3-12 grade choir performed “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana and were conducted by both Mrs. Cairns and Mr. Carroll. It was so beautiful!
3rd graders will head to Twin Lakes next Thursday, June 2nd, from 9:00-12:30. The purpose of the field trip is to do activities and experiments related to our current ELA and science units about access to water, demands on water, and water pollution. Students will rotate through three stations. The first station will involve looking for macroinvertebrates in a small creek to observe the health of the ecosystem. Next, students will do a fly fishing station with CMC fly fishing student-instructors. Finally, students will take water samples and collect data in their field workbooks on the Mobile Learning Center bus, which will also be stationed with us. They will eventually compare the data from these water samples to water samples from other sources collected around Leadville. Please keep an eye on the weather and help your child dress appropriately. Sunscreen and sun hats are always a good idea this time of year! Many thanks to Mary Palumbo from GOL for helping us organize this fantastic opportunity for students!
5th grade went to the Fish Hatchery this week to learn about fishing in our local area. Students also got to practice fly fishing. Each student walked away with a brand new fishing rod. We were also treated to a delicious lunch by the staff. In Math, we took our mid-module 6 assessment and look forward to finishing up our last module in the next few weeks. In ELA, students started researching items to put in an emergency preparedness kit. They continue to work towards their final presentations on how to stay safe during a natural disaster.
