LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-25-22
Dear LCIS Families,
We hope that you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving break and enjoying time together with families and friends. We look forward to seeing students again on Monday, November 28th.
Last week students took the STAR reading progress monitoring assessment and so many students made growth! Ask your child how they did on the reading assessment and celebrate with them as they are working toward reaching their reading goal. Thank you for supporting your child with literacy by encouraging them to read, reading with them, and talking about exciting new books and vocabulary words.
Have you been wondering where your child’s coat has been lately? It’s very possible that it’s in our lost and found bin at LCIS! The bin is overflowing with coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, water bottles and more! Encourage your child to take a look and see if they can find their missing item(s). Please be sure to label your child’s clothes so that we can more easily reunite them if their clothes end up in the lost and found bin.
Please mark your calendar for November 30, 6-7pm for our next LCIS Parent-Principal Real Talk in the LCIS Library. At this meeting we plan to review the results of the conference survey and problem solve together. There will be interpretation and child care available. We hope you join us for this important conversation.
LCIS is so thankful for our local partnership with Freeport-McMorRan and their support for our teachers and students. This past month we have received two grants from them, one funding a library for our English Language Development classroom and the other went to our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) account. This money will help fund rewards for students including our attendance challenges.
In other good news, our 4th grade team received a grant from Schools and Outdoor Learning Environments from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. This funding will be used to support environmental education, science, or Colorado history and purchase supplies.
The Lake County School District is in an academic calendar review process. Two meetings have been held so far to hear from community members about what currently works and what changes may need to be considered in the future. If you did not have the opportunity to attend the most recent meeting or if you have had more ideas since this meeting, we would like to get your feedback! Please click here to leave your feedback. The third and final meeting is scheduled for Dec 13, 6:30-7:30 @ LCHS Library. Click here for more information about calendar community planning meeting agendas.
ATHLETICS:
Upcoming home athletic events:
MS boys’ basketball (7th/8th grade)- Tuesday, November 29, at 4:00 pm*
We will be charging a gate fee at this game: $3/adult, $1/senior. Lake County students get in for free.
(*If your 6-8th grade student wants to attend these games as a spectator, you must attend with them or call to put them on the Event Attendee List- see details below)
If your student (6th-8th grade) wants to attend a basketball event, you must either attend the event with them, or you must call Alison Sprague at 719-486-6954 to get them on the Event Attendee List. Students whose names are not on the Event Attendee List will be turned away at the door and will need to find a way home. RSVP’s must be called in to Alison before 2:30 pm the day of the event, or by 2:30 pm on Thursday if the event is on Friday or Saturday. We do ask that you call to add your student EACH TIME you want them to attend a sporting event at LCIS.
Any 3-5th grade students who wish to attend basketball games must be accompanied by an adult.
MS girls’ basketball is running open gyms on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm at the LCIS gym. All 6th-8th grade girls are invited to join them! The first official practice for that team will be December 5, when practice time will shift to 4-6 pm.
If you need some Panther gear for supporting your athlete, don’t forget to check out the team store!! There are lots of great options for sporting your Panther pride!! LET’S GO PANTHERS!
