Hello Families,
We are closing in fast on Spring Break with a lot of fun activities and events planned. This week we celebrated the 100th Day of School. Thank you to everyone who spent time counting to 100 with your student and the effort it took to dress them up as 100 years old. We loved seeing all the spirit around the school!
Dr. Seuss Week
See flier below for more information regarding our Dr. Seuss spirit week, March 4-7 for students in PK-2!
Joy of Reading Literacy Night PK-6
Thursday, February 29th, please join us for our Joy of Reading Literacy Night. This year’s theme is “Reading is a Superpower!” PK-6th grade students will be able to participate and learn activities they can do at home to help support literacy growth and reading. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite literacy superhero. See flier for details
Music Assembly:
The Swallow Hill Music concert scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for a later date. See information below:
We are excited to partner with Swallow Hill Music (see website here) to bring a fun concert to our school for all students preschool through 2nd grade. The funds for this experience come from Rocky Mountain High Reading Council Book Basket Raffle. The concert will take place in the gym and will begin at 10:00, running until 10:45. The concert is titled “Pioneer Music of the Mountain West”. We are looking forward to this fun experience for our students and invite parents to attend! If you are wanting to attend, please sign at the front office first.
Health Information and Procedures:
February 22, 2024
We are currently in the virus season like cold/flu/COVID to name a few. Our goal is to remain as healthy as possible while at school by decreasing the spread of viruses. We sometimes need to send students home due to their symptoms and inability to take part in the usual activities. We ask that any student that has been sent home for fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea be kept home the next day. This is in alignment with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s, “How sick is too sick?”. See below. If a student returns too early, we will call their contacts to be picked up. Thank you for your cooperation at keeping our schools healthy.

Building Safety
In an effort to maintain the safest building possible, we ask that parents do not hold the doors for other adults or students. We appreciate the kindness but also need to monitor who comes in and out of our school building. Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Thank you all for sharing your kiddos with us everyday! Please reach out at any time if you have celebrations, questions, or concerns.
Have a great weekend,
Katie Pongrekun

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Mrs. Cindy MacIsaac- Occupational Therapist
Cindy began working for Lake County Schools in 1988 and then began working for Mountain BOCES for 23 years. She has now been working with LCSD for 12 years as our very talented and skilled occupational therapist. Cindy has lived at 10,200 feet above sea level and at 8 feet below sea level in New Orleans. She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and she’s inspired by the progress that students make over the years. Her dream vacation would be to visit the British Isles or Europe. Cindy’s hobbies include riding her bike and cross country skiing. Thank you for everything you do, Cindy!
Send Mrs. MacIsaac an encouraging note at cmacisaac@lakecountyschools.net
K-2 Specifics |
- Breakfast: We are noticing that a lot of students haven’t been eating breakfast in the morning and are getting hungry before snack and lunch. To help support this, we are encouraging students to eat when they get to school. Please remember that drop off starts at 7:30 and students can get free breakfast every day. If you do want your child to eat breakfast at school, please have them here no later than 7:45 so that they have time to eat and get to class by 8:00. Thanks so much!
- STEM is in need of toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. If you have any that you would like to donate, please bring them into the front office. Thanks so much for your support!
Preschool Specifics |
Curriculum:
- Preschool Room – We are very excited to move into domain 4 and learn about plants. This domain is designed to teach young children appropriate, nonfiction content about plants. Children will have the opportunity for hands-on learning activities such as planting and observing plants. When interacting with real plants, students are given opportunities to engage in the scientific reasoning cycle by asking questions, making predictions, making observations, and recording observations.
Read this article for more information regarding science and early childhood.
Nursery Rhymes:
- Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush
- One Potato, Two Potato
- Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow
- Ring Around the Rosey
- Peter Piper
- Tippety, Tippety
- 2 ½ Years Old Room – Children will start studying about clothes. Clothes come in a variety of colors, textures, materials, and patterns, which provide a wide range of observable features for children to explore. Supporting children how to zip, button, and snap their own clothing helps support independent learning and strengthen their fingers and hands.

Second Step Curriculum
- We will resume our social emotional curriculum for week 16 “Managing Disappointment”. Kindly see the letter link below to help support your children at home. Letter Link English and Spanish
MAIL MONTH (Feb. 1 – Mar. 7th) – Kindly read the letter attached for more information about the mail month for our preschoolers. If you have shoes boxes or any small boxes that can be used to make a mailbox, kindly bring them to The Center to share.
Another fun activity we do during mail month is our traditional field trip to the Post Office. Children will learn and understand how mail/packages get distributed in our community. Children will also have the opportunity to write their own letter then send it to their friends and family.
Here is the tentative schedule for the Preschool Post Office Field Trip. Children will be riding the bus to and from school.
