Hello Families,
It has been a fun week at LCES this week with Valentine’s Day and all the learning. Thanks to all the parents who were able to come have lunch with your child this week. It was so much fun to see so many of you here this week. Please remember that you are always welcome to come have lunch with your child and enjoy our great school lunches ($4.50 for adults).
We have a lot of fun activities planned for this week. See below for details:
100th day of school Monday
We are excited to partner with Swallow Hill Music (see website here) to bring a fun music concert to our school on Wednesday, February 21st for all students preschool through 2nd grade. The funds for this experience come from Rocky Mountain High Reading Council Book Basket Raffle. The concert will take place in the gym and will begin at 10:00, running until 10:45. The concert is titled “Pioneer Music of the Mountain West”. We are looking forward to this fun experience for our students and invite parents to attend! If you are wanting to attend, please sign at the front office first.

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Ms. Kuehl- 1st Grade Teacher
Ms. Kuehl grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska. From 2015-2021 she was a K-2 special education teacher and from 2021 to present she is a part of our first grade team as a teacher. Ms. Kuehl played golf in high school and enjoys singing, dancing, hiking, going to the hot springs, and reading. She is inspired by the ability to teach and guide children to be the best version of themselves. Her dream vacation would be to travel to Greece. Thank you for all the work you do, Ms. Kuehl!
Send Ms. Kuehl an encouraging note at kkuehl@lakecountyschools.net
K-2 Specifics |
- Breakfast: We are noticing that a lot of students haven’t been eating breakfast in the morning and are getting hungry before snack and lunch. To help support this, we are encouraging students to eat when they get to school. Please remember that drop off starts at 7:30 and students can get free breakfast every day. If you do want your child to eat breakfast at school, please have them here no later than 7:45 so that they have time to eat and get to class by 8:00. Thanks so much!
- STEM is in need of toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. If you have any that you would like to donate, please bring them into the front office. Thanks so much for your support!
Preschool Specifics |
Curriculum:
- Preschool Room – We are very excited to move into domain 4 and learn about plants. This domain is designed to teach young children appropriate, nonfiction content about plants. Children will have the opportunity for hands-on learning activities such as planting and observing plants. When interacting with real plants, students are given opportunities to engage in the scientific reasoning cycle by asking questions, making predictions, making observations, and recording observations.
Read this article for more information regarding science and early childhood.
Nursery Rhymes:
- Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush
- One Potato, Two Potato
- Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow
- Ring Around the Rosey
- Peter Piper
- Tippety, Tippety
- 2 ½ Years Old Room – Children will start studying about clothes. Clothes come in a variety of colors, textures, materials, and patterns, which provide a wide range of observable features for children to explore. Supporting children how to zip, button, and snap their own clothing helps support independent learning and strengthen their fingers and hands.

Second Step Curriculum
- We will resume our social emotional curriculum for week 14 “Strong Feeling”. Kindly see the letter link below to help support your children at home. Letter Link English and Spanish
MAIL MONTH (Feb. 1 – Mar. 7th) – Kindly read the letter attached for more information about the mail month for our preschoolers. If you have shoes boxes or any small boxes that can be used to make a mailbox, kindly bring them to The Center to share.
Another fun activity we do during mail month is our traditional field trip to the Post Office. Children will learn and understand how mail/packages get distributed in our community. Children will also have the opportunity to write their own letter then send it to their friends and family.
Here is the tentative schedule for the Preschool Post Office Field Trip. Children will be riding the bus to and from school.
