Hello Families,
It has been a positive and engaging week at LCES!
This week, students in K-2 did NWEA testing for Math. Students showed strong perseverance while testing and several Kindergarten students told me that it was fun and they can’t wait to do it again!
Students in 2nd grade worked with Get Outdoors Leadville on Thursday to explore water shed and how water affects our daily lives.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the Kids Heart Challenge and the American Heart Association. We exceeded our goal of $3,000.00 and raised $3, 577.45! Your support with this means a lot to me!
Congratulations to Nico Gonzalez! The Kids Heart Challenge had a drawing for the students that had online donations. In our region only 9 students’ names were drawn. Out of those 9, only 3 from Colorado were picked, the rest were from other states. Our own 2nd grader Nico was drawn as one of the winners. He receives an Oculus from the Kids Heart Challenge and the American Heart Association.

Preschool Specifics |
Curriculum:
- Preschool Room – We are very excited to move into domain 4 and learn about plants. This domain is designed to teach young children appropriate, nonfiction content about plants. Children will have the opportunity for hands-on learning activities such as planting and observing plants. When interacting with real plants, students are given opportunities to engage in the scientific reasoning cycle by asking questions, making predictions, making observations, and recording observations.
Read this article for more information regarding science and early childhood.
Nursery Rhymes:
- Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush
- One Potato, Two Potato
- Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow
- Ring Around the Rosey
- Peter Piper
- Tippety, Tippety
- 2 ½ Years Old Room – Children will start studying about clothes. Clothes come in a variety of colors, textures, materials, and patterns, which provide a wide range of observable features for children to explore. Supporting children how to zip, button, and snap their own clothing helps support independent learning and strengthen their fingers and hands.

MAIL MONTH (Feb. 1 – Mar. 7th) – Kindly read the letter attached for more information about the mail month for our preschoolers. If you have shoes boxes or any small boxes that can be used to make a mailbox, kindly bring them to The Center to share.
Another fun activity we do during mail month is our traditional field trip to the Post Office. Children will learn and understand how mail/packages get distributed in our community. Children will also have the opportunity to write their own letter then send it to their friends and family.
Here is the tentative schedule for the Preschool Post Office Field Trip. Children will be riding the bus to and from school.
