News From LCHS 6/5/26
Dear LCHS Families,
Today we celebrated the final day of classes for the Class of 2026.
I am incredibly proud of our seniors. This class has contributed to our school in countless ways through academics, athletics, activities, the arts, leadership, service, and the everyday interactions that help make Lake County High School a special place. They have overcome challenges, supported one another, and grown into young adults who are ready for their next chapter.
While today marked their last day of classes, there are still several important milestones ahead. Over the next week, seniors will participate in graduation activities, spend time celebrating with classmates and families, and prepare for commencement.
As we approach graduation, I encourage our seniors to continue making good decisions and finishing their high school careers with the same pride and determination they have shown throughout the year. We look forward to recognizing and celebrating all they have accomplished.
Thank you to our families for your partnership and support over the years. Graduation is a reflection of the hard work of students, families, staff, and our community.
Congratulations, Class of 2026. We are proud of you and excited to celebrate with you in the days ahead.

Athletics/Activities Survey
It’s survey season! I’d love to hear about your experience with our sports and activities this year. Both parents and students are invited to complete this survey. Thank you for taking a few minutes to provide your feedback!
Summer Training
Next year’s successes begin NOW with spring and summer training! We have lots of opportunities for athletes.
- The weight room is open almost every afternoon. The summer schedule will be released before school gets out.
- Speed and agility training- Mondays and Thursdays at 4 pm at the Community Park Field. Athletes from all sports are welcome to participate.
- Most high school programs have their own open gyms/practice times or will be starting in the next couple of weeks. If you need help getting in touch with a coach, please let me know.
Sports Physical Night
In partnership with St Vincent Hospital, we will be holding a Sports Physical Night on Tuesday, June 9 at LCHS from 5:30-7:30 pm. Take care of your athlete’s physical requirement for next year! This event will be taking the place of the August event we have held in recent years. Each physical will be $25 and can be paid for by cash, check or credit card.
Looking ahead to 2026-2027
- We are changing athletic leagues! Volleyball, basketball, cheer and all of our middle school sports will be part of the West Central League, which includes South Park, Cotopaxi, Custer County, Cripple Creek/Victor and Platte Canyon. Our other CHSAA high school sports (soccer, cross country, golf, track and field, wrestling, football) will be part of the Western Slope League. Those league competitions will be in the northwest quadrant of the state.
- The first day of practice for high school football and golf will be Monday, August 3. All other fall high school sports officially begin on Monday, August 10- the first day of school! Middle school sports will begin the week or two following that.
- We are still in the process of hiring new nordic and alpine ski head coaches, and we have a substantial list of middle school coaching positions open. If you or anyone you know is interested in coaching, please check out our employment website!
Let’s GO PANTHERS!!
From The School Nurse, Colleen Nielsen, RN:
The end of the school year is fast approaching. We want to ensure that your student’s leftover medication is safely returned to your home. Any medication must go home with a parent or guardian. Please plan to pick up the medication at school no later than June 19th. Any medications left after the last day of school will be disposed of properly. Medication is not kept over the summer for the following school year.
Thank you for your help. Enjoy the summer.
