News From LCHS 1/31/25
Dear LCHS Families,
As we wrap up our first month of the second semester, we continue to see growth across the building! We are finalizing our mid-year NWEA data and look forward to sharing results soon. This progress reflects the dedication of our teachers and students. While we know there’s always room to improve, we should also reflect on how far we have come. I remain committed to Lake County High School and am proud of our community.
Three things remain true for me:
- I believe in our students.
- I believe in our staff.
- I believe in our future.
We continue to see students making better choices about getting to class on time and staying engaged. To reinforce these habits, we are adjusting how tardy and pass-time calls are made:
- Grades 7-8: If students are tardy or out past their pass time, a call home will be made. We want to continue to build strong habits for our 7/8 students before they enter into 9-12.
- Grades 9-12: If students are more than 10 minutes late to class or out of class 10 minutes past their pass time, a call home will be made.

The high school boys had their best finish of the season- 3rd– and middle school boys were also 3rd (with Panther athletes in 6th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, and 21st)! High school boys’ basketball got a dominant win over Alameda International on Tuesday.
Student Senate is hosting a winter formal for high school students this Saturday (February 1) from 7-10 pm at the high school. Cost is $5/per person.
Although it still feels very wintery, spring sports are coming quickly!! HS and MS girls’ soccer and HS track & field all begin practices on Monday, February 24!! (Athletes in a winter sport should finish that sport and then begin spring sport practices.) Competition schedules are on our online calendar: https://chsaa.rschooltoday.com/public/genie/1518/school/445/date/2025-02-17/view/week/

Project Dream is Hiring Crew Leaders!
Do you know someone who would be a great crew leader for afterschool and Friday programs? If so, Project Dream is hiring! We are looking for responsible adults to have fun teaching and playing with our students. Wages begin at $16 hourly, with bonuses for experience. If you know of anyone who would be interested, please connect them with Project Dream Director Mike Adler: madler@lakecountyschools.net 719-427-7003
Alternative to Suspension for Vaping Violations
Project Dream and LCHS are partnering to offer an alternative to suspension for students in violation of LCHS’s policies regarding the possession or use of vape products. Students facing an in-school suspension regarding vape possession or use now have the option to meet with Project Dream staff on a Friday and complete a program called Healthy Futures together. Through Healthy Futures, students learn about the facts and harms of vapes/e-cigarettes and will receive resources on how to quit vape/e-cigarette use.
While this initiative is meant to expand supportive options for students in violation of school policy, Project Dream welcomes other students considering quitting to attend these sessions. Please talk with Lana Butler, LCHS Project Dream Site Supervisor for more information (lbutler@lakecountyschools.net).
For reference, the LCHS Student and Parent Handbook contains the drugs/alcohol/tobacco/vaping policy. This program is funded through a portion of a nationwide settlement that the Colorado Attorney General received from Juul Labs, Inc. on behalf of the State of Colorado.
