LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 4-24-26
Hello LCIS Families,
This week marks the end of April and with that comes our monthly community meeting. Please join us on Wednesday at 8:05 in the LCIS Gym. Our third graders will be presenting an narration of a Native American story. These presenters have been focused on reading fluently: reading accurately, using expression, and having good pacing. We will also honor our Scholars of the Month for perseverance and award the CMAS perseverance winners who will receive tickets to the Rockies baseball game on May 20th.
Students who participated in the “Avalanche Cabin” Escape Room at Mountain Time Escape Room in Breckenridge had a great time and were able to escape with only 2 minutes remaining on the clock! This crew showed great collaboration and perseverance as they solved puzzles to escape the cabin before the avalanche came. Way to go!
Upcoming:
Our End of Year DIBELS reading assessments will begin the week of May 4th. Help your child to reach their reading goals by having them read out loud every day.
Lots of End of Year events have been added to our Looking Ahead section. Scroll down to read through this list and update your calendar!
Monday, May 4th, marks the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week. Please consider giving a note of appreciation to your child’s teacher.
On Thursday, May 7th our 3rd graders will go to Hayden Meadows for their end of year nature-based learning experience. Students will be out of the building from 8:45-2pm. Please ensure that they are prepared for a day outside.
The Annual Lake County School District Art Show is quickly approaching! If you would like to help with this amazing community event, please sign up to volunteer using this link: https://signup.com/go/goamuPm

Celebrations:
Congratulations to Derek Hernandez Lira, our Perfect Attendance Pizza Raffle Winner! Thanks for being at school, Derek!
Homework- IXL:
Continue to encourage your child to work on their recommended skills on IXL. Ask your child to show you what ELA and Math skills they are working on.

Academic Update:
Third graders are beginning a new ELA unit about the early explorations of North America. They will be working on opinion writing this month. Ask them about the tools needed for exploration by land and sea!
Sixth grade is wrapping up the unit on Summer of the Mariposas by writing an essay on a hero’s journey. Our next unit is Titanic and students are very excited to get started. On May 13, 6th grade will take a field trip to Molly Brown Museum in Denver in connection with our new unit Titanic In math, we are finishing our unit on two variable equations. We will then be diving deeper into ratios, rates, and proportions.
Communications:
Mental Health Matters This May
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.
Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 970-710-5049.
