LCIS FASO 4-16-21
Hello LCIS Families,
We are really seeing the benefits of having our students in grades 3-5 back together again in a full time model. So many exciting learning opportunities are underway for our students right now as teachers have the time to dig deeper into the lessons. In third grade, students are wrapping up their unit on Peter Pan by writing and performing skits about his adventures. In fourth grade, students are learning about the Revolutionary War period and Mr. Barnett’s students waged a protest against British taxes on Wednesday by marching through the building and chanting, “No Taxation without Representation!” In fifth grade students have started a new ELA module about Jackie Robinson and are exploring topics related to civil rights. Our 6th grade students are comparing and contrasting two author’s presentations of the moon landing. There is so much to learn and so many interesting and engaging ways to acquire knowledge!
We are planning to administer the CMAS test to our students the week of April 26- 29 The state has taken into consideration the challenges encountered by public schools during the last year due to COVID 19. Students in grades 3 and 5 will only be required to take the English Language Arts assessment. Students in grades 4 and 6 will only be required to take the Math assessment. Students test best when they are in their regular classroom following their regular routine, so please keep these dates in mind when making appointments.
Musicians in Mrs. Cairns virtual piano class gave a recital to the students in Mr. Barnett’s class. The pianists were so confident and fluent! This was their first in-person concert this year and they were so professional! Way to go Agent, Michael, and Asher! Mrs Cairns is looking forward to next year when we can have our after school piano lessons again!

Reading is Awesome!
Mr. Conner (Conner Lenhard) is leading a novel study for fourth graders this quarter. They are reading “Maniac Magee” by Jerry Spinelli which explores themes of racism and inequality through the experiences of an orphan boy looking for a home in the fictional town of Two Mills. We are so excited to have Conner, a Lake County graduate, join our school through our partnership with Project Dream!
