News From LCHS 2/17/23
Good morning LCHS Family,
Thank you all for another great week at Lake County High School. Please remember if you need to speak with an administrator or teacher, please call first and make an appointment. It is the only way we can accommodate our families while still getting our essential functions done.
Also, nobody is at the school prior to 7:30 am. If your student arrives earlier than that, they will have to wait outside. Please be mindful of the weather, and try to get them here as close to 7:30 as possible.
Parent teacher conferences are coming up, please make sure you make an appointment to meet with your student’s crew teacher, however, you will also have opportunities to meet with teachers on a first come first serve basis. Please use the link below to schedule your appointment with your student’s Crew teacher.

Common Questions:
How do schools and teachers use MAP Growth scores? | Teachers can use the scores to identify learning areas that their class should focus on, as well as monitor the growth of individual students. Principals and administrators can use the scores to see the performance and progress of a grade level, school, or the entire district |
Can MAP Growth tell me if my child is working at grade level? | Yes, but please note that MAP Growth scores are just one data point that teachers use to determine how a student is performing. Please discuss any questions that you have about your child’s performance with their teacher. |
How often will my child take MAP Growth tests? | Most schools give MAP Growth tests to students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year (in the fall, winter, and spring). Some schools choose to administer tests only twice a year. |
What are norms? | NWEA provides schools with norms by utilizing anonymous data from more than 10 million students around the US. Knowing the top, middle, and bottom scores of all these students combined allows teachers to compare where your child is to other students and help them grow. In addition, NWEA provides comparison data for private, accredited, English-based, international schools using MAP Growth outside the US. |
What types of questions are on MAP Growth tests? | The MAP Growth tests include multiple choice, drag-and-drop, and other types of questions. For sample tests, visit Warmup.NWEA.org. |

A Message from Lake County Commissioner
Due to the fact that the end of February marks the end of SNAP Max Allotment for all SNAP households, Lake County is providing ARPA funds as financial assistance to all SNAP households in Lake County.
As promised, we have updated details on the plan for distribution of these resources.
The following days are designated for SNAP head of households to come to the Lake County Department of Human Services (annex building) offices to receive this financial assistance:
- Wednesday, March 1 from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM
- Friday, March 10 from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM
In this plan, Lake County SNAP households will receive one-time assistance.
This financial assistance is meant to serve as partial compensation for three months of SNAP Max Allotment for March, April and May.
The assistance amounts are based on the size of the SNAP household.
The purpose of this assistance is to ease the financial burden created by loss of SNAP Max Allotment payments at the end of February.
Every attempt will be made to get this assistance to all SNAP households in Lake County, beginning with the distribution days at the Courthouse Annex (the DHS Offices) on March 1 and March 10.
Follow up with SNAP households who do not claim their assistance on those days will continue, including specific outreach to individuals who are homebound.
All SNAP household members can call the Lake County Department of Human Services if they have questions, by dialing 719-486-2088.
Please note that Lake County Human Services is experiencing a significant increase in call volume. If callers are prompted to leave a voicemail, please do so and include what program they are asking about.
More information will be available in the coming weeks on the County Website, flyers posted around the community, within the Herald Democrat, and through direct mailing. All material will be in Spanish and English.
Please share this information with your clients.
If you have questions, please email Janeen McGee at Janeen.McGee@state.co.us or Tim Bergman at tbergman@co.lake.co.us
What is SNAP?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income households in Colorado purchase food. It provides a monthly benefit that helps families and individuals buy the food they need for good health. SNAP is part of a federal nutrition program to help low-income households purchase food.
What is SNAP Max Allotment?
Colorado Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households have been getting an extra amount of benefits every month because of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. These extra benefits are called “Emergency Allotments or Max Allotments” and most households have been getting them in addition to their regular SNAP benefits. These Emergency Allotments were authorized by Congress, but they are temporary, and will be ending at the end February 2023, because of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023. We fully understand that this Federal policy decision to reduce SNAP benefits will hit some Lake County households particularly hard.
Thank you for your continued support to our community and SNAP households,
Sarah Mudge
