News from LCHS
Dear Families,
September 7th we will have a practice Lockdown Drill. Our practice drill is just so we familiarize ourselves with our expectations and routines in case we are ever faced with a crisis.
In a Lockdown, students and teachers are trained to follow “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”. Students move away from sight and maintain silence as teachers lock the classroom doors, turn out the lights, account for students, and wait for the First Responders to open the door. We practice this standard response protocol to ensure safety in our school should an emergency arise.
Please take this opportunity to talk with your child about safety at school and at home. Please contact me if you have any questions about our Standard Response Protocol or lockdown practice.
Sincerely,
Mike Vagher
Director of Safety & Security
Panther of the Week: We did not have any new nominees this week. Please remember to nominate students for the great work and character they show in our community. Please use this link to nominate. A group of alumni, parents and students vote each week on the nominees.
9th grade students will spend 3 days and 2 nights (September 10th-12th) with the Colorado Outward Bound School participating in team building activities. Letters with more information went home last week. Please contact Becca Katz, Community Learning Director, with questions about this experience. She can be reached at bkatz@lakecountyschools.net / 719-293-5169
Please note that, in order to create an intentional and healthy environment, students will turn in their cell phones for the duration of this experience. This means that between September 10th-12th you should not expect any communication from your student. If you need to reach your child, you can do so by calling Becca at the number listed above, or Ben Cairns at 719-293-1232.
7th grade students will join Colorado Mountain College staff and students for 2 days and 1 night (September 26th-27th) hiking and staying overnight in a 10th Mountain Hut in the mountains surrounding Leadville for a team building experience. Letters with more information are coming home next week. Mark your calendar for a Family Hut Information Night and dinner from 5-7pm on September 17th at the Lake County High School cafeteria. Please contact Becca Katz, Community Learning Director, with questions about this experience. She can be reached at bkatz@lakecountyschools.net / 719-293-5169
