News from LCHS 1/20/23
Good morning LCHS,
As winter settles into its routine, we do as well. Our students are in a rhythm, learning to do things with structure and intention. We are providing the skills and knowledge necessary to compete in today’s 21st century economy. No matter what their passion is, we at LCHS will find a way to support it. At the end of the day we are here for these kids from day 1 to day 6,570 and beyond.

ACCESS Testing
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
This testing window is Jan. 9, 2023 through Feb. 10, 2023 and schools will begin testing for our English Language Learners next week.
Please contact me if you have questions.

Athletics:
Lake County High School, in partnership with Project Dream, will be offering a trial season of Esports this spring! Esports is a growing CHSAA co-ed activity that takes video gaming to another level with organized competitive gameplay between 2 high schools. It demands critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and creativity in order for students to succeed. Practice/competition will be after school from 4-6 pm, probably on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning the week of Jan 30. No travel involved. Interested students should sign up in the library with Project Dream.

If your student (6th-8th grade) wants to attend a basketball event, you must either attend the event with them, or you must call Alison Sprague at 719-486-6954 to get them on the Event Attendee List. Students whose names are not on the Event Attendee List will be turned away at the door and will need to find a way home. RSVP’s must be called in to Alison before 2:30 pm the day of the event, or by 2:30 pm on Thursday if the event is on Friday or Saturday. We do ask that you call to add your student EACH TIME you want them to attend a sporting event at LCIS.
Any 3-5th grade students who wish to attend basketball games must be accompanied by an adult.
HIGH SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY IS CHANGING!! In order to better align with the CHSAA policies for eligibility, we will be changing the way that we handle eligibility, beginning with the new semester. We will run eligibility EVERY Thursday, and if you are on the ineligible list, you will have to sit out of competition for the ENTIRE next week (Monday-Thursday). There will be no more appeals for high school students. Student-athletes who miss more than 2 days for sickness, travel, etc, may reach out to Amy Peters for a hardship exception. Middle school eligibility will continue to work as it has been. Please reach out if you have any questions about the change. Crew grades do count toward eligibility for both HS and MS!
CHSAA requires that student-athletes be passing 2.5 credits in order to be eligible for participation in a sport/activity. If your student is not taking at least 2.5 credits at the high school, we cannot document enough eligibility for them through our normal means because the high school administration does not have access to CMC grades during the semester. As a result, we need to start documenting that student-athletes are passing their CMC classes too. Thus, it will be the student-athlete’s responsibility to demonstrate WEEKLY that they are passing by sending their grade reports to Alison Sprague at asprague@lakecountyschools.net.
We will need this report for each of their classes every Thursday, preferably by 2:30 pm. If they do not turn in their CMC grade report(s), they will not be eligible for competition the following week.
If they decide to withdraw from a class, they may need to replace it with another CMC or LCHS class in order to remain at or above 2.5 credits. If they are not taking at least 2.5 credits, they will be ineligible for competition until they begin taking more credits.
LET’S GO PANTHERS!!
