Fall Student-Led Conferences are coming! Conferences will be held on Wednesday 10/26 and Thursday 10/27 from 12-8. Students will have a half day of school each day beginning at 8:05 and ending at 11:15. Lunch will take place before dismissal. Remember that breakfast is served at 7:45. To sign up for your child’s conference use this link: conference appointment
There will be no Project Dream programs on October 26th & 27th due to conferences. Please be sure to contact the school’s front office to make transportation arrangements for your student on these days. We will resume programming as normal on October 28th with Friday programs.
Project Dream will be participating in Lights on Afterschool on Tuesday, October 11th! For this event, all students in Project Dream that day will walk to the Courthouse with their leaders to celebrate out-of-school time programs. All parents of K-6 students should plan to pick up their Project Dream student at LCIS on this day. You can find more information about the event here: https://wp.me/p4PQnj-6fM
At LCIS, we continue to keep attendance at the top of the list for educational success. Students learn best if they are learning in the moment. We love seeing all their smiling faces sitting in their classrooms listening and interacting! The attendance challenge for the month of October is to be part of the Crew Class in each grade level with the highest rate of attendance. It is going to take the efforts of the WHOLE crew to be the winning class. What will they win? A pizza lunch! Good luck to all!
Halloween is coming! Students are invited to come to school in their costumes. Masks and weapons are not appropriate for school. If a student wears make-up as part of their costume, they must still be able to participate in all aspects of school. Please do not send your child with any face paint or makeup for reapplication. Please consider sending a change of clothes for your child in the event that they would like to change out of their costume.
Please do not send any food with your child on Halloween with the expectation that it will be shared with others. If your child does bring food to school, it will be returned home with them at the end of the day. If you would like to send a little Halloween prize to be shared you may, but this is not expected. Little prizes may include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc..
LCIS will be selling Halloween Smencils on October 27th for $2 each. If there are any left, we will also sell them on Monday, October 31st. All proceeds will benefit our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program. PBiS is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the actions that make students successful in school. One of the events that your purchase will support is the pizza lunch for the crews with the best attendance during the month of October. Students love Smencils!

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
3rd grade: Third graders began a new module in math on time and measurement. They are exploring the relationship between number lines and analog clocks. In ELA students are reading all about animal kingdoms and identifying text features and text structures. In science we are learning about life cycles and characteristics of animals. Ask your third grader about how reptiles are different from amphibians!
5th grade: Ask your 5th grader how their Codex Project is going in ELA! Each student is writing about a cultural aspect of life for the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations we are studying. Students had their first spelling test on Thursday. Be sure to check the homework folder for another spelling list! That test will be Monday, October 17. In 5th grade math, students are hard at work mastering the concept of multi-digit multiplication. Your student should be able to multiply two-digit by two-digit (56 x 98) up to four-digit by three-digit numbers (1234 x 987). Please check-in with your child to see how they are doing on this skill.
