LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 10-14-22
Hello LCIS Families!
Many thanks to all of you who joined us last week for our Principal-Parent Real Talk night. It was great to share what’s going on at LCIS and hear your questions and concerns. If you missed this event and have questions for Cheryl Talbot, Erin Dillon, Tracy Vincent or Annette Casados, please reach out to us!
Fall Student-Led Conferences are coming! Conferences will be held on Wednesday 10/26 and Thursday 10/27 from 12-8. Students will have a half day of school each day beginning at 8:05 and ending at 11:15. Lunch will take place before dismissal. Remember that breakfast is served at 7:45. To sign up for your child’s conference use this link: conference appointment
There will be no Project Dream programs on October 26th & 27th due to conferences. Please be sure to contact the school’s front office to make transportation arrangements for your student on these days. We will resume programming as normal on October 28th with Friday programs.
Halloween is coming! Students are invited to come to school in their costumes. Masks and weapons are not appropriate for school. If a student wears make-up as part of their costume, they must still be able to participate in all aspects of school. Please do not send your child with any face paint or makeup for reapplication. Please consider sending a change of clothes for your child in the event that they would like to change out of their costume.
Please do not send any food with your child on Halloween with the expectation that it will be shared with others. If your child does bring food to school, it will be returned home with them at the end of the day. If you would like to send a little Halloween prize to be shared you may, but this is not expected. Little prizes may include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc..
LCIS will be selling Halloween Smencils on October 27th for $2 each. If there are any left, we will also sell them on Monday, October 31st. All proceeds will benefit our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program. PBiS is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the actions that make students successful in school. One of the events that your purchase will support is the pizza lunch for the crews with the best attendance during the month of October. Students love Smencils!
Please join the Lake County Housing Coalition for the First Annual Fair Housing Fair on Friday, October 21st, from 4-7 PM at Freight (320 E 9th St). We will have fair-style games, including a pie toss booth, ring toss, dart balloons, as well as cotton candy, and popcorn. We will be having a discussion about why the housing we want is not being built and Lake County and what community members can do to be part of the solution..
ATHLETICS:
The only home athletic event in the next week is the Frontier League Cross Country Championship at CMC on Saturday, October 15. HS girls race at 11:00 am, HS boys at 11:45 am, MS girls at 1:15 pm and MS boys at 1:45 pm. Our runners would love to have you come out and support them!
Attention Panther fans! We are selling Frontier League passes for $60/person. This pass will get you into all games against Frontier League opponents, whether home or away, for the rest of the school year. Your price will be reduced by $20 if you have already purchased a Lake County annual pass. If interested, please contact Alison Sprague at 719-486-6954 or stop by the high school office.
LET’S GO PANTHERS!!

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
3rd Grade: Third graders are finishing their unit on animal classification. We are learning all about metric measurements and how to decompose kilograms and liters. In science we are learning about traits and variations in plants and animals. Ask your third grader about what they planted, and what they expect to find in the pots on Monday morning!
5th Grade: Fifth graders are approaching the end of their second unit in ELA about Early American Civilizations. Ask your student how their paragraphs, images, and captions are coming for their Codex Project. We will have a spelling test on Monday, 10/17 as well. Words have the prefixes ir-, il-, and inter- (irregular, illegal, international…).
We are continuing our work with multiplication of multi-digit numbers and decimals. We will take a mid-module assessment next week. PLEASE quiz your students on their multiplication and division facts and spend extra time on those if they are not fluent.
We will celebrate students who have completed 6/8 homework packets on Monday, 10/17 during Crew! Thanks for supporting your student with completing homework!
