LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 12-9-22
Dear LCIS Families,
We have one more week of school before Winter Break! We hope to see your child at school every day as there’s still lots to do!
Next week we will be celebrating the holidays with a Spirit Week! Here is the schedule:
Thursday is the end of the first semester and we will celebrate by hosting a Winter Wonderland event for students during their specials classes. Please be sure to send your child to school with their warm clothes as the activities will take place outdoors.
Also on Thursday, we will hold our November-December Attendance Challenge Reward. All students who have attended 95% of school during these months will participate in the cookie decorating event in the afternoon. We know that strong attendance correlates with strong academic achievement and we thank you for prioritizing your child’s education.
Next week we will be selling Elf Hats and Santa Hats for $2 each. The hats will be available the week of Dec. 15th or until we run out. All proceeds will benefit our PBIS rewards program.
We hope that you had the opportunity to see our 7-12 students perform this past week at the annual LCHS Winter Concert. It was amazing! You may be wondering when you will see your LCIS student perform. Ms. Lynette is preparing students for a Friendship Concert that will take place on February 14th at 2:30pm in the LCIS Gym. All performances will connect to our February Habit of the Month: Compassion. Students will also perform this spring on May 31st at 6:30 at the LCHS Auditorium. We look forward to hearing our children sing and play instruments.
LCIS is participating in the SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee again this year! Mark your calendars for February 8th at 8am in the LCIS Gym as this is when our crew spelling bee winners will compete to become the school champion and have the opportunity to compete at the state level. Students will be bringing home spelling packets over the winter break, so be sure to start quizzing them! Remember that in a spelling bee a student must say the word, spell the word, then say the word. Start building that habit now!
Is your child interested in learning how to ski or snowboard? We are so fortunate that SOS Outreach programs are offered in Leadville! This affordable programming is designed for children, grades 3 and above, who have little to no experience skiing or snowboarding. Students receive all equipment, plus lift tickets and professional instructors. Programming is offered for five days, Saturday or Sunday, through the Learn to Ride/Ski program at either Ski Cooper or Copper Mountain, depending on your child’s age and experience. If you or child wants to learn more about the opportunity to ski or snowboard this ski season, they can learn more about the programming in their morning crew when Mikayla from SOS visits! Check out the SOS website with helpful details: https://sosoutreach.org
Have you been wondering where your child’s coat has been lately? It’s very possible that it’s in our lost and found bin at LCIS! The bin is overflowing with coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, water bottles and more! Encourage your child to take a look and see if they can find their missing item(s). Please be sure to label your child’s clothes so that we can more easily reunite them if their clothes end up in the lost and found bin.
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
5th graders have a VERY IMPORTANT homework packet this weekend! It includes review for their test next week. Please look at your child’s work to make sure they did it.
– Students who completed 6 out of the last 8 homeworks will have an extra recess this Wednesday 12/14 during Crew.
– Math: We are continuing work with adding and subtracting fractions. Next week we will start removing the visuals and rely on the standard way of making equivalent fractions in order to add and subtract with like denominators.
– ELA: We will finish our unit about Don Quixote next week! Students are finishing persuasive essays and have four different ELA assessments on the unit next week. Tuesday and Wednesday are especially important!
