LCIS: Notice of plumbing leak 4/20/23
Dear LCIS Families,
On Tuesday we were informed that there was water (including sewage water) running down the wall in the pool area of LCIS. We were able to get a plumber on site yesterday and the plumber has identified that there is a water leak causing this. At this time it has been identified that the grease trap in the kitchen has a hole in it that is causing kitchen water to leak. Additionally, it has been identified that there is another hole 4ft down in sewage plumbing coming from the kitchen area and 25ft in on the main kitchen/gym plumbing line. There may be other leaks related to the bathrooms in the gym and additional testing is scheduled. At this time we are unable to use water in the kitchen/gym area of the building. Sack-lunch style meals were prepared offsite today and transported to LCIS. Next week we have a temporary plan to be able to provide hot lunches to students with minimal changes to the lunch schedule.
One additional concern that was raised as a result of the leak is not knowing how much water is behind the foundation wall in the gym and if there are any structural concerns we should be considering. The thought is that it is most likely a low level of concern. However, not knowing the significance or longevity of the leak, it was recommended that we consult with a structural engineer. We have contacted numerous companies at this time and have not yet secured this analysis but will continue to work to seek this or an alternative professional recommendation.
For the time being we are limiting how the gym is used to minimize the rocking/bouncing of the gym floor. This has impacted our sports teams, special events as well as other community partners who currently use this space. We appreciate their flexibility and understanding.
We want to acknowledge that the response to limit the use of the gym feels a bit excessive. However, it is a response to the many unknowns of the plumbing leaks that we are placing a higher level of concern regarding the facility until we can get a professional analysis. We want to make sure we are considering student and staff safety.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
