LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 4-28-23
Hello LCIS Families,
It’s that time of the year when the snow melts and the mud appears on our playground field. There seems to be a magnetic attraction between kids and mud. Please send your student to school with an extra set of clothes just in case they slip and land in the puddles. We want them to be dry and comfortable while learning!
LCIS is selling yearbooks! If your child would like to purchase a yearbook, have them bring in $20 and fill out a yearbook form in the office. Yearbooks will be on sale through next week.
Our lost and found is overflowing with so many winter items! Perhaps you’ve noticed that your child’s snowpants, coat or mittens are missing. If so, be sure to stop in and look for them.
🎨 The LCSD Art Show is just around the corner! Please mark your calendars for this amazing annual event that showcases the incredible artistic talent of students in all grade levels. There is a change of venue this year. For the first time, we will have the LCSD Art Show at Lake County Elementary School. This event will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm on May 18th and will include all of the wonderful booths that our students look forward to every year; rootbeer floats, cotton candy, face painting, flower potting and more! Can’t wait to see you all there!
Students in Ms. Church’s group created very clever posters for the ladies in the office this week in honor of National Administrative Assistants Day. They were very generous with the sweet treats and the secretaries were so grateful!
We would like to give a big thank you to the LCIS Food Service staff and custodians! Our cooks have been so flexible and creative and hard working this week while navigating the best way to serve delicious and nutritious meals to our students and staff! We are so lucky to have such an amazing crew.
Our Custodial staff have been hard at work moving tables, chairs, crates of food and carts all week in support of our new lunch routine. Thank you to all of these essential staff who make it possible for our students to learn!
Mark your calendars because LCIS will be hosting our Celebration of Learning on Tuesday, June 6th from 6-7:15! We now plan to offer our spring concert in conjunction with this event, so will have music presentations from our band students and each grade level. This will be in place of the previously scheduled Spring Concert at LCHS on May 31st.

Should School Board members be paid? We want to hear from you. ¿Se debe pagar a los miembros de la Junta Escolar? Queremos escuchar de ti. |
The State of Colorado passed a new law (HB21-1055) that allows for a district to consider paying future School Board Members. The Lake County School Board sees the benefit in allowing pay for board members to recruit and attract community members who may otherwise have financial barriers to serving on the Board. We would like to hear your thoughts on the idea of compensating school board members. Please provide your input by May 15. You are also invited to share your input during public participation at upcoming school board meetings. These meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30PM at the District Administration Office (315 W. 5th Street). We appreciate your input. |

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
In fifth grade, we began our unit on Native Americans in English Language Arts. Your child brought home material to read and complete from our lessons for homework. In math, we have a test coming up on Thursday, May 4. This weekend’s homework contains many activities to use as review. Please remember that IXL is always a great choice for homework if your child is struggling with the packet! Students who complete 7-8 hours AND show growth/progress on their skill plans can earn a Pizza Party right after the next round of NWEA tests! PLEASE encourage your child to bring a full water bottle to school.
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
The team communication group is the best way to get updates on your students’ practices and games. If you are not receiving messages from your child’s coach, please contact them.
