LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-10-23
Hello LCIS Families,
Dr. Carrie Hauser, the president of CMC, and Swoop the Eagle came to LCIS this week! They were here to give a presentation called “College is for Me” to our 5th grade students. The CMC team shared information about the Concurrent Enrollment Program Act (CEPA) and how affordable and accessible college is for our local students. It is never too early to start planning for the future! We are so thankful that CMC is our partner in education!
The CMC presentation team included, from left to right: Kaela Gaylord, Ben Cairns, Carrie Hauser, Swoop, Brooke Larson, and Evan Weatherbie.
LCIS conducted our annual Lockdown drill on Wednesday, November 8th. Our students and staff have gotten so good at practicing “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” that the entire drill, from start to finish, lasted only 15 minutes. The building safety team was very impressed with the efficiency of our school community. It was so quiet that it was impossible to tell that there were 300 people in our building. We know that this practice will help to ensure the safety of the entire LCIS Crew.
Our delicious Thanksgiving lunch is next week! Please join us on Wednesday, November 15 for this hearty meal at a minimal cost. We have the best food service in the country!
Adults – $5 Children – $3 LCSD students from any building – Free

Our next Attendance Celebration will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 15th. The dates for this attendance window are Oct. 2-Nov. 15. Students who attended all 27 days or only missed one of these days, will be invited to participate in the celebration. We value attendance as we know that there is a strong correlation between attendance and academic success. Thank you for doing your part to help your student to get to school every day!
While we know that this isn’t always possible, due to illnesses, we want you to remember that we will have numerous opportunities for these attendance celebrations throughout the year. In fact the last one of the fall semester will be held on Wednesday Dec. 20 for the 15 days between Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break.
Our next Panther Pride day is on Thursday, November 16 and will be hosted by our Specials teachers. The theme is gratitude and the students will participate in activities related to gratitude and giving thanks.
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
All students in Spanish Language Class have been working on greetings, farewells, days of the week, nouns, and articles according to their gender. They have also been identifying color in different things and analyzing the verb “ser”. Students have practiced with their Chromebook on Tuesdays and used some applications like Quizlet. On Thursdays they have learned about vocabulary words related to Spanish culture and celebrations; for example, “Hispanic Heritage Month” and “The day of the dead”. Have a great week and ¡Saludos!
5th grade ended our study of poetry and began the book, “Adventures of Don Quixote.” We have a math assessment next Wednesday, 11/15, so please make sure your child completes their homework or IXL skills this weekend! Also this week we were visited by Colorado Mountain College leaders and their mascot Swoop the Eagle. The President of CMC encouraged our students to own the statement: “College Is for Me!“ Students were invited to introduce themselves to a staff member in order to receive a ticket to visit any CMC campus and a Swoop keychain. Students also received a pen, pencil, and water bottle. CMC is so generous!
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
Panther Gear! If you are looking for Lake County spirit gear, our Panther store is still open. This year there are additional sport-specific options. You can find those here. Spirit wear (in the bottom right hand corner) says Panthers instead of a specific sport. 5% of sales comes back to the athletic/activities department.

The Lake County Annual Pass will get you into any home event- HS or MS, volleyball or basketball.
