LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-17-23
Hello LCIS Families,
Thank you for attending our Thanksgiving lunch! We would like to give a huge round of applause and tons of appreciation to our food service staff and custodians. They worked so hard to give us all a delicious lunch and make everyone feel welcome. It is amazing to see what this group of wonderful people can do! It is so fun that we get to see staff members from other buildings, too. What a fabulous way to kick off Thanksgiving week!
Students celebrated Gratitude during their Panther Pride Celebration on Thursday. They were able to play rhythm instruments, play Farmer and Turkeys and Stuff the Turkey, and create Thank You cards. So much fun on our last day of school before break!
We are already planning the next Attendance Celebration – the last one of the fall semester – for Wednesday Dec. 20. Students who have missed ½ day or less for the 15 days between Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break will be invited to attend a craft activity.
We are excited to announce auditions for our 2024 musical production of “Shrek the Musical!” We are continuing to keep this open to 3-12 students with limited role availability for 3-6 students. If students are interested in auditioning, they should do the following:
1. Auditions will be held on Monday, December 4th starting at 5PM and Tuesday, December 5th starting at 4PM. The sign-up sheet will be posted on Monday, November 27th. Interested 3-6 participants should email Mrs. Cairns ccairns@lakecountyschools.net for a time slot.
2. Interested participants should prepare a thirty second to one minute monologue and song.
3. Interested participants should pick up a participation handbook & signature page from Mrs. Cairns. Mrs. Cairns will email these to 3-6 families who sign-up to audition. These will be available starting Monday, November 27th.
4. Participants should arrive 10 minutes prior to their audition to fill out their audition sheet and bring their signed participant signature page from the handbook.
5. Callbacks will be held by invitation only on Wednesday, December 6th starting at 4PM. A list will be posted both at LCHS and LCIS on Wednesday morning.
Please direct any questions to Mrs. Cairns at ccairns@lakecountyschools.net
We look forward to this production!
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break! In PE, the students just finished a Badminton Unit. Students learned basic rules, racket technique, how to serve the birdie, and they practiced rallying. It was a fun, albeit silly Unit. Before the Winter Holiday, most classes will participate in a week of fun games and will begin our new unit after the Winter Holiday. Starting in January all students will begin the Archery Unit. Please look for Archery information in the students’ homework packets towards the end of December.
In 5th grade we continued reading the silly story Adventures of Don Quixote. Students wrote a claim for their opinion essay answering this question, “Do Don Quixote’s intentions justify his actions?” In math, we finished Module 2 with a test on Wednesday, then spent Thursday learning new games to play with our multiplication and division FLASHCARDS! Please ask your child to show you the games they learned to practice their math facts! The flashcards are for your student to keep at home. Our next math module is adding and subtracting fractions, so keep practicing those facts in order to make math time easier.Fifth graders in Ms. Beery’s crew practice math facts with new flash cards and games. The games are in their homework packet – make it a family game!
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
Panther Gear! If you are looking for Lake County spirit gear, our Panther store is still open. This year there are additional sport-specific options. You can find those here. Spirit wear (in the bottom right hand corner) says Panthers instead of a specific sport. 5% of sales comes back to the athletic/activities department.
This year we will be charging for ALL GYM sporting events- high school and middle school.
Ticket prices will be $7/adults and $5/seniors for HS games and $3/adults and $1/seniors for MS games. We will NOT be taking cash at the front door, but we will take credit cards at the door.
You can also buy your tickets online in advance at: https://gofan.co/app/school/CO11697
The Lake County Annual Pass will get you into any home event- HS or MS, volleyball or basketball.
Reminder: Lake County students will need to show their school ID to get free entry into the games.
