LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 2-23-24
Dear LCIS Families:
The days are staying bright a little longer and we are looking forward to some warmer weather! We have not had to cancel any recesses for weeks due to low temperatures – hooray! Fresh air and sunshine are the key to quick minds!
Unfortunately, we had to postpone our special music performance by Swallow Hill. One of their performers became ill and the group was unable to present their historical musical revue. We are hoping to reschedule the performance for March 6th, but we are awaiting confirmation from Swallow Hill. We will keep you updated!
Dr. Seuss Week is March 4 – 7. Mrs. Osborn, our amazing library/tech teacher, has been busy planning our school celebration for Dr. Seuss. Theodore Seuss Geisel, or Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904. He has written more than 60 children’s books, most of which have become embedded in our hearts and minds. His rhyming style and whimsical characters have made reading fun and exciting for millions of children. Our celebration week will be based on his books and characters. There will be fun prizes for all the participants!
We have scheduled out next Attendance Celebration for March 7th. Students who have missed 1.5 days or less since January 8th will be invited to the gym to create a necklace or zipper pull. We are excited to celebrate excellent attendance at school!
We are looking forward to our Spring Break March 11-14 followed immediately by Spring Conferences. Please use this link to schedule a meeting time with your child’s teacher for either March 20 or March 21 from noon to 7:30 pm. Students will attend school from 8 am to 11:15 am on conference days. Students will have sack lunches in the classroom and the busses will run their regular routes. Looking forward to seeing you all!
The Lake County School Board has an opening. We will be appointing a new member to the board to complete the current terms that expire November 2025 at which point candidates may choose to run for election. If you are interested, please submit a letter of intention to the District Office (328 West 5th St.) by Feb. 28th. You may address this letter to the Lake County Board of Education. Interviews will be held at the regular School Board meeting on March 4th (6:30 PM District Office/Zoom). We hope to seat new board members at the March 25th meeting and they will be sworn in at this time. There are more important details in the flier below!
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
In Physical Education class, LCIS students recently finished an Archery Unit. Students learned how to shoot compound bows using National Archery in the School’s Program called “11 Steps to Archery Success”. A lot of growth was made during the module. All students were able to shoot accurately into the target by the end of the unit. The next unit in P. E. will be basketball. Students will learn basic rules and fundamentals as well as playing five on five basketball. Have a great weekend! Mr. Teesdale.
In 5th grade we are preparing for our Community Meeting next Wednesday! Students have been working hard at acting, set design, and costumes. We will have tests over our Reformation unit on Monday and Tuesday next week. Then, we will start studying William Shakespeare’s work by reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In math, we are multiplying fractions and decimals as well as converting units. It’s tough, so make sure your student practices by doing homework!
PROJECT DREAM UPDATE:
Project Dream (21st CCLC) and Get Outdoors Leadville! are very excited for Spring Break Camp, running during normal school day hours, Monday, March 11th through Thursday, March 14th! With a similar setup to Rockies Rock, this free day camp will include all types of offerings including: snow games, sledding, biking, and play at multiple sites around Lake County.
