WPE Last Handout
Dear WPE Families,
We hope this message finds you and yours healthy and safe. We received news last week from the Governor that all schools in Colorado will remain closed for the remainder of the school year; we are so sad that we will not get to say goodbye in person! Our staff is passionate about teaching and truly misses working with your children. We know that this change has been hard on everyone, and we believe that the spirit of our WPE Crew helps to keep us all connected during this long time apart.
Our staff has been busy working out the logistics for the end of the year. Below please find some important information.
On Monday, May 11 from 8:00am-4:00pm and Tuesday May 12 from 3:00pm-7:00pm we will host our final packet/belonging pick up at West Park (not at LCIS). At this time we plan to distribute: the last two weeks of at-home learning activities, the remaining spring pictures, student art pieces, yearbooks, and student belongings that were left at the hook spots. We have ordered extra yearbooks if you wish to still purchase one (please bring a check for $25). You may also return WPE library books and public library books at this time! Currently, our staff is gathering up your child’s belongings and preparing them for you to take home. These items will be in a larger bag to keep everything together. If you are missing a clothing item, we may have it in our lost and found – please let your crew teacher know! We will have the larger lost and found items out for you on the outside of the school building.
Distribution for these days will follow a similar structure as we followed at LCIS: parents will enter the WPE drop off lane from 12th Street, drive up to the cone at the front entrance, remain in their vehicles and tell the WPE staff member their child’s name and grade level. A staff member will bring your child’s items to you. The next stop is for art items that will be delivered to you at the western walkway. Please only plan to get out of your vehicle if you want to look at the lost and found items and remember to follow social distancing recommendations. All staff members will practice social distancing and wear a mask, to keep everyone safe!
Because we are offering two pick-up sessions with extended hours on Tuesday, we are asking that all families make a plan to come and pick up their child’s belongings at this time. If you are currently under a medical quarantine or do not have a way to get into town, please let your crew teacher know and we can develop a plan to get you your child’s belongings. We can also make appointments for later in the week, if you are not in town on these distribution days. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing all families on May 11th and 12th!
We will be mailing report cards home the week of May 18th. These reports will reflect student progress through March 13, 2020. If your mailing address has changed since registration, please leave a message with the WPE office at 719-486-6890.
We are also planning our orientation activities for our rising 3rd graders to feel as comfortable as possible with the exciting transition ahead! The LCIS staff is creating a fun orientation video that will be posted on our website by the end of May to help decrease the “new school” worries.
Thank you for all of the support that you are offering your child in their at home learning! We know that it can be challenging for families to balance all of the demands on their time. What is most important is that your children are happy and healthy and that they have time to read and interact with you on an academic level.
Stay healthy and safe. We look forward to seeing you on May 11th or 12th. We’ll be in touch again before the school year is out! As always, please contact the school if you need anything or have any questions. We miss our students greatly – they are in our hearts always.
Sending lots of virtual best wishes and gratitude,
Kathleen Fitzsimmons and the entire WPE Staff
